I have bought lottery tickets at tesco stores and Waitrose , using Tesco CC and a John Lewis CC never been charged as a cash transaction and never won the top prize either

Buying lottery tickets is not officially considered an essential purchase, I would think.I buy them online from the NL website every week, have done for at least 2 years. That way you can use credit or debit card to pay: I use my debit card. I buy one line each of Lotto and Euro every week and consider the sum as "lost" money. Someday, Rodney..... smiley: )
I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

And the relevance of this is what, exactly? 🤷♂️Robisere said:Buying lottery tickets is not officially considered an essential purchase, I would think.0 -
It's completely irrelevant, and if the intention was to sow doubt that buying Lottery Tickets at shops is allowed, it's completely incorrect too.bradders1983 said:

You can buy whatever you want from Tesco, or any shop, regardless of whether it is 'essential' or not.
You shouldn't make a trip to the supermarket just for the purpose of buying one.0 -
Which is odd, given that when the lottery started you could not buy a ticket with a credit card. Done for the very reason to stop people spending money they did not have.jonesMUFCforever said:I buy my lottery tickets every Saturday using my Barclaycard together with other few bits - it has always been treated as a purchase not cash transaction.
Also for whoever wants to know - purchasing of National Lottery tickets is still allowed by credit card and is not part of the ban.Life in the slow lane0 -
OK, this is how I should have written it: You shouldn't make a trip to the supermarket just for the purpose of buying one.- Before I was jumped on and trampled! Jeeeeez! Give me a break. Always someone here to pick at the bones.I think this job really needs

Did you not take the lottery ticket for the same reason?st999 said:Just been to Tesco to get my shopping and for some reason the checkout till was not doing the lottery, so I went to the customer service desk to get my lottery ticket.
I got my tickets and they were not accepting cash so I had to pay with my credit card.
Will that be considered a cash transaction and incur any charges?
I would look at the receipt but I never got one as the assistant had said I can't take cash in case it is infected so I said I don't want the receipt in case you have infected it.
Nationwide Select credit card.

I hate to be a pedant, but the National Lottery website doesn't accept credit cards. Debit cards only.Robisere said:Buying lottery tickets is not officially considered an essential purchase, I would think.I buy them online from the NL website every week, have done for at least 2 years.
