Just had gigaclear installed in the village, where previously we were lucky to get 8-10Mbps (average of 3Mbps the last 2 months). Just done. Speed test from my iPhone and am getting 54Mbps download and about the same upload.  I was stood beside the ‘mesh’ thing (rectangular box with the password on it)

Any ideas what I should be checking or changing please? I’m a bit of a technophobe

    Thanks debitcardmayhem

errrrrr, so I need a new router?  Any recommendations? I’d like as strong/fast WiFi as possible throughout the house and garden if possible, so don’t mind spending to get something really good - any recommendations?

Not necessarily, what is your current router ? it may just need to be set to be to 5ghz , the TP is 450mbps on n(5ghz)

That  would/should be better than the TP Link, you just to make sure you have 5Ghz on and you are connected to it wit your iphone.

As debitcardmayhem said, you would need to upgrade your router/wireless access point.
That being said, don't expect to see gigabit speeds with WiFi, if you want to check the speed of the new connection, you will have to use a cable.
  • How old is the phone ?
Some WiFi adapters in older phones that only work on 2.4Ghz can limit throughput to well below the incoming fibre speeds.
Linksys say up to 400 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 867 Mbps on 5 Ghz, so that should not be a limiting factor close to the access points.

I didn't say he needs to upgrade , I just said he needs to use 5Ghz and depending on which model he has the Velop should be more than capable.

Yes that's what I meant, upgrade the router or obviously update the settings if it already supports higher speeds/frequency.
