Lloyds bank not taking phone calls and can't be contacted

So I want to change a current account to a joint account and ring 0345 300 0000.   I go through a two minute menu entering account details, voice ID etc.  At the very end I am told they are not taking telephone calls and then cut me off.
Why could they not play that message at the very beginning?
Anyone got though lately as I am trying to switch accounts and need my Lloyds account changed

It looks as if you couldn't book any appointment to add someone to an account (can only be done in Branch) anyway. But if you google your local branch, you might find a local phone number which might get answered. Doors at my local Branch are blocked by a scary looking security guard and you can only get past him if you have an appointment or a damned good reason why you can't use the ATM or online/app.

It seems you have to do it in branch , but branches are not doing that type of business at the moment

Exactly - banks are open for essential requirements at the moment and none that I know of will accept face to face appointments for anything.

Maybe try Messaging them From the Help and Support Section of their Mobile App - They may be able to assist you with your request this way. Other  than that, try using their "Talk to us" Pop up on their website - This will Allow you to be put through to someone who may be able to help

Unfortunately witnessed this the other week. Lloyds phone banking in recent years has become very slow to get the point with ever more waffle at the beginning and after all that and validating ID it doesn't let you speak to someone. Online baking doesn't offer secure message, neither does the app, this is the real problem. There is no way to contact them in writing short of sending a letter. All the app does is call same number, it just avoids doing the tedious ID verification.

Well I rang the branch on a different 0345 number today.  Got the same standard menu which was a struggle, as it didn't understand my answers.  After maybe 3 minutes of repeating myself I get to the very end and then was told they are too busy to take any phone calls where I am then cut off.
    This is getting urgent.
I don't use banking apps so I will have to look at the website again but it feels like the bank has all but closed its doors to its customers.
If I went to branch, which is a major pain, would they just tell me to go away?

What is so urgent that a sole account is changed to a joint account right now? As the second post says Lloyds are very unlikely to let you do it at this point in time?

Can you open a joint account with a bank that allows you to do it online? You can then switch your two sole accounts into that new joint account.

I don't have practical experience with opening a joint account but an app-only bank such as Starling would obviously let you do it all without having to go to a Branch. I believe at Starling you'd have to both open sole accounts first but that can be done in 10 minutes flat, assuming your IDs can be verified electronically.

Santander will let you open a joint account online. Nowhere near as quick as Starling, but probably faster than Lloyds. I am sure there are others who do too.

Not sure what's so urgent, though, about needing a current account.

Called in to a branch today and they said go away. There was nothing they could do to make my account a joint account at the moment as they were not interested in seeing any ID.

Are you switching to or from Lloyds?  If you're switching away from them, you can switch a sole account into a joint one....
