All Inclusive Holiday with reduced facilities in Hotel - HELP

  • I have a similar problem and totally sympathise.  We booked (last September) most expensive holiday we have ever been on to Jamaica at end of Nov 2020 and we are going specifically for the culture and sightseeing/excursions.  Jamaica is not on the restricted list, but Jamaica has imposed restriction this week that no excursions are allowed and you are restricted to a hotel.  I may as well be in Spain ! and not pay out nearly 9K for 4 of us.   So, from what I understand, I cant cancel as the Country is not restricted.  Yes we could cancel and lose the deposit, but not everyone can afford to do so, particularly as most people including us have not been earning for the last 5 months.  We have yearly travel insurance and obviously paid deposit by credit card.  Can anyone suggest any other options/rights ?

Here is some information from the tourist office which you might wish to read through -
    https://www.visitjamaica.com/travelauthorization/resilient-corridors/

Some tour operators, like TUI, are saying that they will be flexible and may offer amendments, changes and refunds should they believe the destination holiday experience will not be enjoyable.

I think your position is quite unique in that you are seeking culture, sightseeing and excursions.  I think most that go to Jamaica are staying in large Ai resorts and happy to stay within that hotel area for the duration, baring perhaps a trip to Dunn's River Falls for half a day.

I believe that Visit Jamaica are looking at allowing certain authorised excursions to operate shortly.  You may not be able to have the freedom to jump in a local taxi or meet the locals but I would hope some approved and licence excursion providers will be allowed to operate over coming months.
