The balance date is looming on 22nd May...balance is £4500.We've paid a £720. I've tried to get through to Virgin Holidays but it's proving nigh on impossible. We paid the deposit on a credit card ( the wife says that she has travel ins on that card) ...it looks like many on here are contacted just two weeks before their flight by Virgin ...to say that the flight is cancelled. Of course ours in August and from Gatwick. Virgin have now left Gatwick. We've decided that we are not going to pay the balance...so if I still don't get through to Virgin what happens to our deposit ? On 'manage my booking' it says that our 'holiday is still going ahead' even though the US has quarantine rules and New York will probably still be in unsafe and closed !!

You'll lose 720 and effectively be cancelling.

...even though we're supposed to fly from Gatwick ? They haven't been in touch to say where we're going to fly from !
  • There was a thread on here discussing whether a change of airport is considered 'cancellation' by the airline?   I think the opinion was, it wasn't.    As your holiday isn't due until August you will have to wait it out and if you don't pay the balance, you will be treated the same as any cancellation; You forfeit the deposit.   Well that is how it is up to now.  There are some people who feel you can challenge the t's and c's owing to the current circumstances but as yet I haven't heard of anyone doing so and being successful.

Sorry not what you want to hear I know and in all honesty nobody has ALL the answers as so many differing situations all with the same result - they haven't got their cash back yet!

The Virgin Holidays terms and conditions on their website clearly state that a change of airports would constitute a significant change enough to cancel......except for a change of London airports.

In any case you need to be patient.  If the US are not letting anyone in the holiday will be cancelled.

Bradders if it was your trip...would you pay the £4500 balance due in 8 days ?

Yes. Because I have it sat there, dont need it, and legally I am entitled to a refund of it in cash if Virgin cancel or they go bust.
  • We're scared of losing the lot though !

There are absolutely no circumstances where you would lose the lot.

Highly unlikely but if it concerns you, don't pay it and forfeit the £720.
