Gutted at the amount of my self employed grant

I started my own business in September 2017 and have made more profit each year, but for my grant they haven’t taken into account my 2019/2020 profits and have divided the year and a half they have included, by three. So I hardly got anything from the grant. Is there any point appealing to try and get them to include last year? I will have no income until people start going on holiday again, so the next few months are going to be very tough to say the least.

If you didn't put in a tax return for 2016-17 for any self employed income this looks to me as though they should have divided your year and a half of trading by 2 only. It seems worth appealing.

Even if they recalculate by dividing by 2 years you're going to be unfairly disadvantaged due to the partial first year profits. I warned about this flaw in the scheme in this thread, and explained why the median rather than mean average should be used. Many people will be receiving closer to 40-50% of their actual profits, not 80% as promised by the government. This needs to be challenged and media attention gained.

Like you, I am receiving about half the profits due to trading dates, but I wouldn't mind as long as they made a deal with the DWP that the SEISS shouldn't count towards Universal Benefit.

I take it you have been notified of the amount rather than having received it? Your 2019/20 profits don't count. There is no point appealing this aspect. Based on the facts you have given, your profits for 2017/18 and 2018/19 should have been added together, divided by 24 (not 36) to give a monthly average, multiplied by 3 to give the three months' total, multiplied by 80% to give the grant. Did you have any self employed income in 2016/17 from another business?

The applications started today. When you apply it tells you their calculations and what grant to expect.

You're lucky I'm not allowed to claim until midday on Friday 15th.
I think they are trying to stagger it so their systems don't fall over.
