2 Painting disasters

Hi
Whilst on furlough I have been painting in and outside the house.
i have been painting our two wooden gates which are a mixture of rough wood and smooth wood and were previously painted two years ago, not sure what the paint was as my wife painted them.
i painted them with some fence paint that had already been opened a year or so ago.
i gave them 2 coats but after a few days of nice dry weather the rain came and it made the paint become wet again on both gates in certain places.
i then bought a new tub of Ronseal fence line plus and gave them another 2 coats, but again after a few nice dry days it rained again and the paint became wet again in certain places (any ideas anybody what i am doing wrong and how I can fix this problem)

also we have a summer house and I decided to paint the doors on it.
I stained the doors 2 years ago, but decided I will paint them this time.
i wanted to know if I could just put the Ronseal fence life plus on the doors straight over the stain, and somebody said on the Internet that yes I could but I would need to put primer on the first.
i put primer on them left them over night the put a coat of fence life plus on the next day.
2 days after, I went to put a second coat on it rained for about 1/2 hour that morning so I waited until it dried up, when I went to put the 2nd coat on the paint had gone wet from the rain and when I tried to put the 2nd coat on the brush was taking off the first coat back to the primer.
again has anybody any ideas of what has gone wrong and how I can fix this problem.
