Received a letter from a company called trace legal department claiming I have an outstanding balance of £160 for a parking ticket because I parked the disabled bay and although I displayed my Blue Badge my son must have knocked it off the dashboard as he climbed over the front to get out now they are threatening to get the company to take me to the County Court unless I pay £160 within the next 14 days what do I do thank you for your advice and help

If you send a copy of ttheBB to the PPC they would be foolish not to cancel.

It is not a fine, it is an invoice from an ex-clamper to compensate them for the alleged harm they suffered when you did what you did. We call it a scam. Pay them not a penny unless a judge so orders it.

Nine times out of ten these tickets are scams, so consider complaining to your MP, it can cause the scammer extra costs and work, and has been known to get the charge cancelled.

Parliament is well aware of the MO of these private parking companies, many of whom are former clampers, and on 15th March 2019 a Bill was enacted to curb the excesses of these shysters. Codes of Practice are being drawn up, an independent appeals service will be set up, and access to the DVLA's date base more rigorously policed, persistent offenders denied access to the DVLA database and unable to operate.

Hopefully, when life gets back to normal, it will become impossible for those scammers who are left to continue their vile trade, but until this is done you should still complain to your MP, citing the new legislation.

You start by reading the newbies thread at the top of this forum, you ignore Trace who are greedy useless muppets, and tell the regulars on here a little more information like Who is the PPC, where did this happen, was an appeal made, was the driver identified? You certainly should not pay a debt collector who can do little more than send empty threats.
