Does anyone know anything about Virgin Media installation?

We currently have Sky TV/Phone/Broadband but the internet is dire.
I want to get Virgin (broadband only) as the estimated speeds are nearly 100x better and doesn't need the phone line which the sky is using. The Virgin website confirms that my address can be connected.
What I don't understand is how the cable will get to my house? There is a Virgin DD3 cabinet at the end of my street, on the opposite side of the road which was put up last year.
How do they get the cable from there to my house? Would they have to dig the street up?? The Virgin website states I can have installation this Saturday which seems very fast.
I was just wondering if anyone had experience of this? I'm just worried if I complete the order they'll either turn up and say they can't do it, or they'll turn up with a JCB!

Every house in the served area will have a feed near the house! They will, obviously have to dig up parts of the garden and paths. Try to find the feed and work out where the cable can go. They don't lift floorboards.0

Try and see if you can find the junction box in the pavement. If you can all VM did in my case is to dig a channel in the lawn and just lay in the cable with no shielding. The cable is about 5 inches from the surface. The cable is connected to a brown junction box on my wall and this is then routed externally to a point to enter the house. I would say since you are only having Broadband make sure it is up and running before you give notice to your existing provider. One team did the cable installation and another person did the connection. They may say this Saturday but an engineer will have to enter your house to complete the installation. Look to see if any neighbours have brown junction boxes.
Also remember that you should get a good deal with the first contract but then you will need to haggle to get anything like the initial price. I have been with VM for 9 years and apart from a few outages have had a very good service. It started of with 50Mbps and due to taking up offers is now 500Mbps but realistically is anything from 400 to 520Mbps. I have to say that unless you have a specific need for the higher speed 100Mbps should be plenty.2 -
We just had Virgin BB installed. Every install will be different dependent on the physical characteristics of the house and existing ducting. Our house is 13 years old and the Virgin BB team 'blew' the cable through existing BT ducting so there was no need for anything to be dug up. The cable appeared out of the ground next to the existing BT point of entry. From there to a small 6" square brown box, from there through the wall to the Virgin white wall socket. All in all less than 30 minutes work for the engineer.'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.
