Jet2 admin fee

Can anyone help...Admin Fee with Jet2 - I changed the date of my holiday with Jet2 in about September 2019 and they charged me £250 admin fee to change the holiday to a different date (we were supposed to be going 12 June 2020).  This has now been cancelled by Jet2 who are refusing to give me my admin fee back.  If I re-booked with them they were prepared to waive the admin fee due to Covid 19 but will not give me the original admin fee back even though it is them who cancelled it - Can anyone give me any advice?  I just don't know how they can keep the £250 admin fee when they cancelled it - £250 is a lot of money to lose when we are out of work and are still waiting for a payment to come through from the government with being self employed :O(

They didn't cancel the first time , the charge is fair . You are not entitled to a refund

    Completely different to this occasion

I have a question. I know the answer, but who knows someone out there just may know a workaround.
    Keeping it short/simple.
Booked holiday Jan 2020 / changed our mind / paid £130 admin fee to change booking. Yes, had we waited another month likely got the 'free cancel/change' etc still..typical what can I say!
July - email from Jet2 - 'Holiday is here'  / Day later ' Great News Jet2 flying 15th July - Your 19th July holiday is cancelled' ! Played Columbo, and guessing Jet2 just are not flying from Belfast till mid August.
SO - uptodate - noticed on their website, You have till 7th July to change bookings for free etc'. Phoned ( long wait! ) changed booking, end of August. Said on phone, seems a lot of deals around etc...we didnt get one actually paid more.
Anyway, 3days later - checked our hotel. £400 cheaper!!! Naturally disappointed! #
Aware we dont really have much of a case. I basically want to cancel and rebook..but obviously, late in the day, massive admin fees etc. Are they even legal? I though Banks etc told off about all that overcharging.
I phoned anyway, long wait, told the usual, Sorry nothing can do..." A gesture for sticking with JET2 when we could of cancelled, and heck..you cancelled us..last minute - my A/L booked ( a right game that was and still told have to take it!! ) ...
Thought perhaps an upgrade re hotel room. Nope, nothing black and white bang to rights. Had my chance to cancel/rebook on the Saturday...THANKS JET2 for loyality to customers!!
What'd you think...anything..they have this 'Live System' and Terms and Conditions and very expensive pencils made of Gold which is why admin fees so high!...Live System hey...i wonder...did the women i spoke to when rebooking holiday and asked..did she know this holiday was dropping £400 in a couple days time? I wonder...
Jet2 are cancelling/rebooking everyday ( must be very busy as each time i phone theres a 2 hr wait each time! i better not be charged!!! ) - seems even under covid you only get 1 shot.
Must say, come the day of the flight..say one of us is ill etc...no insurance to cover us...so..what happens then?

Answer me that..and also answer me how i get £400 back !!!

  • Oh mi goodness Michael.   Really feel it for you and yes it is a shame but not illegal.

First of all I doubt very much that a person at the end of the phone would know in advance what the costs would be.  They just reel it off from a screen.

Secondly, yes you probably did jump the gun by asking for a rebooking of original holiday but you know that.

The July holiday was cancelled and that was your opportunity to request a refund but you rebooked to end of August?  Am I understanding this correctly?

I honestly don't feel you would be successful in requesting any money back as the holidays have now come down in price.  This happens all the time in the 'real' world.   People will often pay different amounts depending on when they booked but just because someone sitting beside you has paid a lot less doesn't mean you can ask for a refund yourself - if you see what I mean?

To get your money back you can maybe hope holiday in August is cancelled (where are you going to?) and then don't rebook anything, just request a refund.   You have been messed around enough I would say but IF it does all go ahead I hope you have a fabulous time and you will soon forget all about it.
