Not quite sure what to do, have my family booked on flights for 29/07 for our 2 week holiday in Lanzarote, unlikely this is going to happen!
When do i request a refund? that's also not likely to be easy thanks to Ryan Air by the sounds of it, It's a lot of money and i could do with it sooner rather than later.
My booking hasn't been cancelled by RA , possible wont ever be but being realistic i cant quarantine the family for 2 weeks on return so its not going to be viable.
Choices:
RyanAir - wait and see what happens , that's a risk and at what point do I request a refund?
CC - can I go this route yet ? if not when ?
Insurance - I have travel insurance through my bank which is pretty comprehensive - when can i go this route? what do i need to prove the claim, particularly if RA never actually cancel the flight?
any help would be great?

At the moment you are looking to cancel the flights, because you don't want to travel. So as things stand today:
- Ryanair: No chance. Flights are non-refundable.
- Credit Card: No chance. Section 75 or chargeback only covers you if the provider fails to provide the service you have paid for. They haven't done that - it is you changing your mind.
- Insurance: You may be covered for cancellation because of Covid-19. It will depend on your policy and what it covers, but it's way too early at the moment to start a claim.
If Ryanair do end up cancelling the flight then you'll be entitled to a full refund. However, if the flight goes ahead as planned then you would not be entitled to a refund. The great unknown at the moment is what travel restrictions might or might not be in place in August, both UK FCO advice, but also abroad. However its far too early to know at this point in time.
You need to just sit on your hands and wait I'm afraid.2 -
Thanks "bagand96" hear what you say but i don't agree with your first statement, if government restrictions mean you must quarantine all travellers for 2 weeks on return then that requires 4 weeks , no work , no school etc etc so restrictions stop this flight being taken, my insurance is actually very good (Nationwide BS bank Flex Plus account) I'm fairly sure they'll pay up but am not sure what will have had to try and fail with before they'll accept the claim?
