Time to cancel (Jet2) I think

You would make more than you would giving it to a travel company for them to sit on for a year.BOWFER said:
OK then, for the sake of argument, let's say i book a whole year in advance.bradders1983 said:
Surely that depends how far in advance you are booking, isnt it?BOWFER said:
And precisely how much interest would I have earned on £2000 over 2-3 months, prey tell?bradders1983 said:
Pay the deposit by credit card and then pay it off.BOWFER said:
The irony being that on this very website, you are encouraged to do exactly what we did.bradders1983 said:I really dont know why people hand them money months before you need to. Open up a savings account, pay into it every week/month/whatever, and pay the holiday company a day or so before it is due. Lock the account if you must to stop you withdrawing early if you dont have any willpower.
Pay by credit card and then pay the credit card off ASAP.
Easy for people like you to be smartalecs after the event, neither you or I had any idea this would happen and I've never had any issues doing it this way before.
Pay off the balance by credit card just before it is due, and then pay it off
Same advice applies pandemic or not. Why give them money any earlier when you need to? And this way you get to earn a few quid interest.
Exactly....
But thanks AGAIN for offering your powers of hindsight.
Nothing at all to do with hindsight. Its about earning a few quid interest and not paying until you need to and something everyone should do even in normal times, surely you agree with me that your money is better in your own pocket than theirs?
What would I make in interest on keeping the £2k in my account?
Two balloons and a windmill?
As I've already stated, I now wish I hadn't paid in advance and won't ever do so again, so why you're continuing down this route is beyond me......
Does it give you a warm, fuzzy feeling?
Anyway it is general advice for anyone who is reading, you crack on.0 -
A lot can and will happened in the next few months, no one can be sure what will happen.anticlaus105 said:I'm in a similar situation. I have a flight to Lanzarote booked for 5th Aug returning 16th with Easyjet. I've paid 1st night of the hotel and am to pay the rest on arrival.
If the hotel doesn't happen I don't want the flight and overall I'm not sure we want to go anyway. I can afford to lose the 1st night hotel money, but the flight cost would be hard to swallow. All paid on CC and I have travel insurance taken out last year.
Should I be doing anything now, or is it just wait and see?
Currently Lanzarote is one of the safest places in the world to be, but of course that can change.
With EJ you can change you flights to another date, just paying any fare difference, but only to about May 21

Ok, I've been sent an email from the accommodation website saying if I voluntarily cancel now I will get 50% back.
If I can't get there because my flights are cancelled (or I'm ill) I get 100% back.
I really don't know what the hell to do.
If Jet2 are adamant they're going, and we're adamant we're not, maybe 50% of the accommodation back now is the best we're going to get.....?
Obviously there will come a date when we don't even get the 50% back.
It seems like a 'stick or twist' situation.0 -
Is it just flights you have with Jet2?BOWFER said:Ok, I've been sent an email from the accommodation website saying if I voluntarily cancel now I will get 50% back.

It's in total flux at the moment.
Spain is opening up to overseas tourists on 1sy July, but yesterday they stated the UK won't be part of the first group.
I can't see holiday companies like Jet2 TUI flying to places from the UK where UK citizens aren't allowed to go.

The longer I wait for 'someone' to make a decision, the less refund I'm going to get from the accommodation.....

I would personally cancel it, but that just my view.
But I could be wrong and Jet2 does fly.
Others might have a different view.
