Quarantine issues

Options
I'm not entirely clear on the specific detail of quarantine intentions for airline passengers entering the UK from abroad.
Will this include Brits returning from holidays abroad (wishful thinking) anytime soon ?
Would they have to self isolate at home for 14 days on return ?
If so that's going to be a huge disincentive to punters looking at cruises etc.

From what was said last night it would apply to everybody arriving by air, except from Ireland, and today they added France.  In a stroke Boris has killed the travel industry in this country, both domestic and international.

Not going to be issue for most of us this year ..... non-essential foreign travel for holidays and especially by air and on cruises is not going to be happening much before next year, if then, and possibly not until a vaccine is widely available.  Add to that no cover for Covid-19 being available on new travel insurance policies, and those policies that are available being much more expensive and holidays are not going to be a realistic or attractive option.
It isn't just the quarantine coming into the UK- other countries are going to have their own rules/restrictions.

Well you cannot blame him for the same happening in Spain and I suspect other countries will follow Spain,s lead

I'm not exactly clear what sort of quarantine is actually being proposed for incoming air travellers.  How will it work in practice?  Also, what jurisdiction does the UK have over foreign nationals anyway?  Presumably they can't be forcibly quarantined somewhere, so how will it work?  Voluntary quarantine would be effectively impossible to police.

If people cant provide an address at the border they have apparently requisitioned airport hotels to do it. As for UK nationals, as you say it is unenforceable and will entirely rely on "dobbing in".

Simple solution....dont tell anyone you are going away, put nothing on FB whilst away.

This was yet another plan that wasn't thought out before it was announced. There are still no specifics but I understand part of the current Isle of Wight tracing app is testing for the forthcoming coronavirus quarantine. All those arriving will be required to download the app which can be then used to trace your movements, everyone will be required to give a specific address that they will be staying at and the police will be given powers to act if you break the rules. Big Brother is alive and kicking here in the UK and although it should have been introduced 8 weeks ago before thousands returned home, it may stop the development of a second wave of the virus which has occurred elsewhere as restrictions are lifted. The UK has made it clear if you do not have an address you will be quarantined at a place chosen by the government, at your own expense, so no foreign visitors will be arriving either.
Everything is still up in the air, arrivals from France were to be exempt until they realised that everyone would simply change planes in Paris and that plan has now been dropped, ferries and trains were to be exempt as well but that has seemingly changed too. Judging by the people I passed at lunchtime today, everyone seems to think lockdown is over. Until the virus is really under control, overseas travel is simply not going to start again and although the Health MInister has warned that there "won't be any lavish overseas holidays", I presume those are the sort he takes, I doubt there will be a week in Benidorm either this summer
