Was there a reason behind obtaining 3 mobiles? Something that you may need to tease out of him. For a few months does seem to have found the money. If his income is low as you say. Was money coming from another source?0 -

Request:
Please could you post these types of threads in the DFW board. As I keep getting verbals from those on the forum who disagree with members applying the relevant legislation correctly.
Thanks3 -
There are varying degrees of autism, according to the autistic “spectrum”, and my son is quite high up that spectrum, he would not know what a phone contract was, but in the same vein, the lender would not know about his condition unless it was divulged, and that is not a part of the application process.
However, if you write and explain this situation to the original creditor, as well as the current incumbents of the debts, then you may just get one or all of them to write the accounts off.
Debt purchasing companies always take a gamble when they buy such accounts, they make commercial decisions every day to write off uncollectible debts, so it’s well worth asking.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. It wasn't you. You are always concise, helpful and non-judgemental in your posts. I have always valued your contributions. You are always professional. objective and courteous. I will always be happy to debate a thread with you. My apologies if you felt I was referring to yourself.
Thanks
All I try to do on this forum, is to provide members, both old and new, with the relevant information so that they can make an informed choice. The anonymity of the internet is very frustrating, that I sometimes wish we all knew each other on first-name terms. I am a bit of a dinosaur...lol...life was a lot less complicated when all we to correspond with each other was a landline and the postal service.
In fact, I will finish by quoting MSEs very first forum-member when he said "Many people who have serious debts have hidden them for a time..." before asserting that "...the fact they are here means they're looking for help, guidance and to take charge of their finances". That really is an admirable effort. These people do deserve our respect...They don't deserve to have members passing judgement...they don't deserve to feel berated, ashamed, embarrassed, depressed and even suicidal. They are real people, with real lives, with real wives, sisters, brothers, sons and daughters.
Thanks again….
PS End monologue....I think I just rambled on a bit...(tee-hee)...
I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.

My son is on the other end. He goes to college where he's doing a BTEC L3 in programming, he has his own mobile contract, his own bank account and I'm able to educate him about personal finance. My son hardly ever says to anyone he's autistic because as far as he's concerned there's nothing wrong with him. He'd certainly not think to mention it when taking out a mobile phone contract.Saying someone is autistic so automatically doesn't understand isn't a valid claim to make because it's an autistic SPECTRUM and that spectrum is very wide ranging.0

Okay, so I have an autistic nephew (for reasons he can’t use the forum himself, so I’m doing the asking).
basically, he has set himself up, and is in a serious financial badship, for some unknown reason, he has managed to apply and get 3 mobile phone contracts , all around 8 months old now (so there’s no way of returning these handsets), he done it because he wasn’t happy with the handsets he had, a Samsung s10, then an iPhone 11, then iPhone 11 Pro, the lender was sky mobile, now, he doesn’t earn a huge amount, and has been recently furloughed with 80% of his wage.
he defaulted on all three in January, and sky have now sold the accounts to a debt collector.
would this be classed as inappropriate lending by sky? Setting up handset loans for well over £2500 in total, knowing he was on a limited wage? And having three in general is a bit extreme, surely they should of done further checks? Has he any way out of this? Or is it a case of him having to have my sister help him to clear the balance?.
thanks I’m advance, bit of a tricky one .
Lots of people have multiple phones for various, sensible reasons, so expect a lot of challenge from Sky if they make a complaint. Can you imagine the outrage if phone providers asked about an applicants disabilities and made judgements about their suitability to take on a phone contract?
What's happened to the other phones and sims?0
