This crisis is going to have to be paid for. Compared to many countries our public services are excellent. More that peoples expectations are unrealistic.onwards&upwards said:

If there is money to be given away, it should go to workers who are shielding but their employer has refused furlough. They are the biggest losers in this mess. Here I go again on my own....0

Unsustainable. Our prudent Chancellor make some financial errors of judgement.onwards&upwards said:

What utter nonsense. I earn a little over £35k which may seem alot to a shop worker but is nothing for the responsibility I hold. I have been working every day through this, having to attend people's homes etc. Why would I be less worthy of a bonus than someone on minimum wage? (although as it happens in Wales Care Workers will be getting a £500 bonus, often going to the same places I do)Butts said:As the Government have expended a great deal of money on Furlough Payments for Employees taking enforced leave of absence at home, would it be a nice gesture if they rewarded the low paid workers who have struggled through adversity to continue providing services often not appreciated in normal times.I'm thinking of Shop Staff, Security Staff, Cleaners and other lowly paid professions, people who have actually had to come out of the house to attend their place of employment.
These people often have no access to Company Sick Pay Schemes, Decent Pensions etc and are already lowly remunerated.
How about a "National Insurance Holiday" or one off payment in the form of a Tax rebate to say thank you ?
I am thinking about people who get paid £10 hour or less ?
The best way to increase your salary at any time is usually to undertake qualifications. I will likely be paying back my student loans all my life
An answer isn't spam just because you don't like it......1 -
Pomposity personified, nice to know the spirit of altruism is alive and well during the current pandemic.diggingdude said:

I earn a bit more than you and have also been going to work every day through all this. The reason low paid workers should get a boost and we shouldn’t, is that we don’t need it. We are financially comfortable. We don’t have to worry about making ends meet. It’s not hard to work out..1 -
Just because you are financially comfortable on your salary doesn't automatically mean that everyone is. Much more likely to be "comfortable" on £40k in the North East than the South East with the cost of housing being the main difference - a cost outside an individual's control. Someone earning NMW in the North could actually have more disposable income than a person earning £40k in the South.onwards&upwards said:diggingdude said:

Far, far too simplistic, and a massive generalisation, to say that if a person earns £X p.a.they must be financially well off.1
