With the six month grace period what is the urgency, hopefully by the time the MOT becomes due you will be able to have had it repaired.0

Probably the easiest way is to see if the mirrors have a separate fuse and if so, remove this.hansolo2000 said:Should I disconnect the motor somehow because the other mirror goes in and out everytime I lock it
the motor is still turning on the drivers side how can I disconnect it?

Don't worry about it folding, and if it's gonna get knocked again park elsewhere.hansolo2000 said:
I can fix it on with sealant for now, but it can’t ever fold back in.Scrapit said:
There's not a minimum or maximum size a wing mirror should be. Some vw vans have different sizes on each side. As long as you can see you are goodRobisere said:And don't do what I saw before lockdown: an old Focus, with the door mirror strapped on with duct tape. Duct tape being over the mirror and obscuring at least 50% of the reflective surface. Saw that car twice in one day.
chances of it getting knocked off again are high.0 -

Back in February 2020 my son was travelling to work along a narrow road with a slight bend ahead when an American lady taking her kids to school met with my son's van. My son had no scope to steer further to the left and both car wing mirrors were smashed. My son's mirror was replaced by himself for £20. Details were exchanged but the lady was blaming my son and using disgusting profanities in front of her children. My son told her it was not his fault. My son's insurance said that the lady was still accusing him and persuaded him to accept a 50/50 settlement. That was the end of it he thought. Now he has had 2 solicitor letters on behalf of the lady's insurance company. The first was demanding £3,500 or face court action (estimated cost of her wing mirror £250) within 7 days if no response is received. My son sent this letter to his insurance company and they said it happens all the time and they would deal with it. A second letter has arrived with a hand written witness statement from the American lady's child. We have yet to send this to to my son's insurance company.
All of this seems completely bizarre but does anyone have any legal knowledge of where this could be leading? Should we be concerned and why hasn't this been closed out between the insurance companies?0 -

Just send everything to the solicitor. Your son will already have lost his NCD by accepting 50/50 so he has nothing more to lose. He may have to give his side of the story in court if it gets that far but nothing to worry about really.0

Dear OP
Sorry to hear about your mirror.
Stick it with glue ie one they can see. If it's has auto close like our cars, on most cars you can disengage the auto close. If the mot man/woman does not nore it is a temp fix, they will pass it as long as the mirror and any built in lights are not damaged.
