Ideally your ADSL router should be plugged in at your master socket, extensions will degrade the performance you get.
Just make sure you have a network connector (Ethernet) on your PC and you are ready to go. Even if you go wireless at a later stage its best to get going with a wired connection.
You make have to make the BT man a nice cup of tea and a mince pie if you want him to attach your existing extensions to his shiny new master socket, its easy to do it yourself though. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
for your email, buy a domain name [ heartinternet is great] and use it for email, then no matter who is your isp ,just redirect to your domain e mail [many variations] ie mike@domainname.co.uk..zee0

When you say extensions will degrade the performance do you mean many socket extentions or the wire cable extentions? As the pc is a good 8 ft if not more away from where the master socket is?The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
Any extension can add issues to the line, best bet is to plug the router into the main socket and then instead of running a telephone extension that will drop the signal strength you can actually run a long ethernet patch lead instead from the router to the PC.
Any additional telephone socket on the line must be filtered if something is plugged into it and if it's a wired socket then any issues on the wiring can add noise to the line itself.0 -
As PaulK says any extension will cause problems.
The main culprit is the old bell circuit that is usually wired but no longer needed by modern phones.
This article give some useful tips.

Yep, check that only 2 wires are connected, you can also get a pre-filtered adsl master socket faceplate to help but running an extension is a no no in a lot of cases as Sky will just tell you to unplug it anyway if you call and complain about a fault0

That looks like a simple faceplate with an integral ADSL filter. You may be better with something like this Solwise ADSL Faceplate Splitter, which allows everything in the property to be filtered in one place (Connections are also provided for both filtered (phone) and un-filtered (modem) extensions hard-wired from the rear).
I would wait until your BT line is installed and take it from there, as you will get at least one ADSL filter/splitter supplied with the Sky router. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Thanks for your replies, sky is coming on tuesday and the bt the folllowing wednesday, just a pity it couldnt be the other way around:rolleyes:The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0

The one that a lot of people use on Sky user is from ADSL Nation, The ADSL nation guy posts on the site which is useful in the even of problems.
It a neat fitting replacing your existing faceplate.
BT may fit a version by now, does no harm to ask.
