Perhaps the OP could tell us what offence led to his ban and why he thinks he must take a re-test.
My ban was for Drink Driving and was put in the "high risk offenders" category.
2.5x the limit, or refused to allow a sample?

Have you had the D27PH form through, and have you returned it?

//...but I was also told by my driving instructor, when initially learning to drive, that if I lost my licence (for whatever reason) within the first 2 years, I would have to sit the tests again.//

I always say that you should never take legal advice from a police officer. I shall add to that "driving instructors". He might be grateful if you advise him of his misunderstanding.

Judging by the length of your ban, presumably you have been classified a "High Risk Offender" because of the level of your excess alcohol (greater than 87.5 in breath, 200 in blood, 267.5 in urine). The DVLA will need to process your licence application and you will need a medical. But you won't need to take your test again.

Given he was an inexperienced driver and the ban was lengthy, if the Magistrates ordered him to retake a test he must sit an extended test before getting a full licence back.

Going to court can be quite traumatic.  That is why if you ever go to court, you must take someone with you who can take it all in and then sell you what was actually said.

Indeed, as I pointed out in my post at 9:46 on 8th May. The offence (provided it was drive/attempt to drive and not "in charge") attracts a mandatory disqualification so a re-test would be the extended version. However, the only person the OP suggests has told him that a re-test is required is his former driving instructor. There is no indication that the court has ordered it. The OP has based his assumption on what his driving instructor told him. He will find out soon enough when he applies for a new licence. If the court ordered a re-test the DVLA will only issue him with a provisional licence.

There's every indication the court has ordered a retest given he used the words extended test. Revocation under the new drivers act would only require the test to be retaken.

I was only assuming this as I was told convicted drunk drivers do have to take extended tests.

My understanding now is that if a court has not ordered me to take a re-test, I do not have to take one?

Who mentioned extended tests and what exactly was said in court?
  • Hi There,
I was banned for 6 months TT99 (Totting up points in 3 years), Not going into detail, but i feel £300 on a pay monthly and is a 1/4 of my wage. Cheapest annually is £2609 but i cant afford that amount. Is there anything out there that people know, that i can do to get this quote down. Only 7 providers will touch me. I feel fairly screwed over. PS.. The court system for people who are genuinely apologetic and have made a genuine mistake. Not all my points where for speeding.

    Thank you in Advance.
