I wondered that myself richto, so i kind of guestimated and it worked!

Add 1 to basket, proceed to checkout, change quantity to say 900 then update your basket and (providing Amazon don't actually have 900+ in stock - if they do, raise figure) a message will come up saying something like "we're sorry, you have requested more of (item) than the xxx we have in stock...."

The xxx's are the number of stock they have at present.
