Granny internet

Hi
We have finally persuaded our 92 year old granny to have a go at the internet. She's 150 miles away.
She has no internet in the house and no wi-fi she could piggy-back onto. Getting internet installed is going to be too problematical even if possible at the moment.
I'm looking at getting one of these https://shop.bt.com/products/samsung-galaxy-tab-a--2016--10-1--wifi-lte-black-sm-t585nzkdbtu-FJH0.html?utm_source=awin&utm_medium=affiliates&utm_content=ZA0000&utm_source=awin&utm_medium=affiliates&utm_content=ZA00&awc=3043_1588937044_5bdd4023ca851f6a7e046c3a51c2fefe and putting a sim into it (Lebara?). I'm assuming that tablet is not locked to O2 (waiting on an email reply).
Does this seem like a workable option? Does anyone use a Tab A on a data network and does it work for eg Whatsapp, Skype, etc.?
Cheers
Alan

Do you know who provides the best mobile signal at her house?

She's seen other people use a tablet in front of her so she has got at least a vague idea about swiping and tapping etc. I'm hoping I will be able to set up some form of remote control to assist plus she has a friend who uses a tablet and is reasonably savvy.J_B said:Do you know who provides the best mobile signal at her house? Both O2 and Vodaphone are OK, 3 and EE are a bit of a failure.

Tablet from 2016?
OS from late 2017?
How long before it stops getting updates? I don't know. Perhaps someone else does.1 -
I have the non-cellular version of this tablet and it received a security update only a few days ago (although admittedly, the first in a long time). In any case, I doubt the intended user is going to be too bothered by an absence of OS updates. I think it's a perfectly serviceable tablet.TheRightOne said:How long before it stops getting updates? As long as you are aware...alahol2 said:

Other than that, seems ok.
Though I prefer a laptop. I have an iPad but hardly use it at all. Perhaps an hour over the past few years.1 -
Thanks Rightone, I think I too would have preferred a laptop but to get one with a sim will be expensive, a 4G router would be added complication. We really are looking for a one box answer.
