It would help if you knew which model of phone you plan to use as it could be limited to 2g.

If so then 3, and any provider that uses the 3 network, will be a non starter as 2g isn't supported by them.

But if you have a 3g phone I find 3 to be good. I topped up maybe er a year or 2 or more ago. As long as you send a text every three months you are good.

Virgin mobile runs on the EE network.

If you use a 2g phone then don't go for 3 or any provider who piggy back on their network as it won't work.

That's not very clear, are you asking which mobile company has the lowest top-up amount?

eg. if you're mainly receiving calls then it would be better to only top up £5 rather than the more common £10.
If so, I'm afraid the situation is slightly complicated for three reasons.
1 Networks often have more than one tariff which will have different amounts and may last for a different length of time.
2 The network itself will have a minimum top-up amount but this can vary as to how you do it and where.
3 Individual retailers can decide on a minimum transaction value.

I don't know if there is an exhaustive list anywhere.
