Unclaimed cash isa

Hi, we have recently found a certificate for a cash ISA which belonged to my father who died in 2009. As far as we know this was not part of his estate and wasn’t transferred to his wife or found in her estate when she died 2015. My brother who dealt with all things financial has just found the certificate in an envelope addressed to our father and dated 2007 where it gives the amount it was worth then. This was with the Halifax.
What can we do now. We had LPA when they were both alive.
thanks

First thing is to do is to ask Halifax about the ISA account to see if it still has funds in it still https://www.halifax.co.uk/savings/help-guidance/dormancy/

ISAs in 2009 would have had to be cashed out on death - no 'transfer of the allowance' back then.

LPAs die with the donor so are irrelevant.

Who dealt with the estate(s) - was Probate needed?  Who was executor/executrix for each?  I hope the Grant(s) and Death Certificates are still on file as they might be required.

In my filing cabinet I have a pile of ISA (and other) certificates from Nationwide, and others, that are long gone on to other accounts;  so don't necessarily expect there to be any money with the Halifax at all!

It might help others in future to write "Account Closed" on your paperwork?

I do! But this was an ISA of my fathers which my brother has just found! Dad died 11 years ago and mum 5 years ago. Brother was in charge of financial LPA & me Medical LPA.
I’ve been ‘told’ to leave him to it, big brother syndrome!
