Options
Hi
can anyone help at all . I transferred onto my car a private number plate yesterday and my insurance is due for renewal today . Did it all on dvla website all ok . When I went to put the cars new reg on comparison insurance sites to purchase insurance it doesn’t recognise the new number plate ! I rang dvla but they are closed due to corona . I don’t know what to do - can anyone advise please as my car now has no insurance !

I would type in the make and model of your car to get a quote.2

It takes a few days for the DVLA to update their records. It will probably take longer during the present circumstances.
On comparison sites, just use the "I haven't bought the car yet" option or use the old registration."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock1 -
But if I put in old number plate and get quotes , I obviously need to purchase one now so my car has insurance but the number plate will be incorrect won’t it ? And I don’t want to get into trouble with police etc and my insurance to be invalid0

Simplest answer is to renew with your existing insurer. You will find that comparative quotes will be high because you've left it so late.

If it was me I would phone within 2 minutes of them opening in the morning and if that doesn't work you probably have no chance.1 -
What did the insurer say when you phoned them and explained the situation...?1

I haven’t rang them yet - will do shortly and let you know0
