she was completing a course, she was safe ,she was not 'stranded'and has enough money and visa to stay for the summer(that is still an option as only 6 people in shasta county have the virus) I was booked on the same flight and advice also was not to accept vouchers/rebooks as that didnt apply to us.bradders1983 said:More to the point, why did she not make immediate plans to return home when the UK government advised to do so?0 -
Great, then needs to contact AER LINGUS and ask how they intent to get her home, as have a duty to do that under EU law.lucyandrosie91 said:Yes
If they refuse to reroute her, then she can claim back the new ticket cost.
BUT don't seek a refund of the cancelled Aer Lingus flight.

Thankyou.Yes there are quite a few flights via Houston/new york...to Heathrow the original booking was to Glasgow and I think I need my refund(I was supposed to be going out last week)to pay for the flight to Glasgow! She is better where she is.With friends in a county with less than 10 cases and could sit tight for a few months yet hence the 'rebook/refund/get you back'dilemma...not particular urgent.no panic here!Alan_Bowen said:She should contact Aer Lingus and advise she is still in LA and wants to return home. I don't think they are operating any transatlantic routes at present, the planes seem to be on a permanent route to Beijing and back but they may make arrangements with American and BA who they have a joint venture with, the route may be via another airport in the US as flights are few and far between due to the US ban on all passengers from the EU and UK which was imposed a long time ago. Don't book alternative flights until checking with Aer Lingus but as others have said, the FCO advised all UK citizens to return to the UK weeks ago

When she decides to return, look at the prices, if cheaper than old ticket, book that one and get the other refunded.
But if not get Aer Lingus to sort it out.
