Credit Card Fraud

Someone got hold of my card details and appears to have used them to create a google play account and run up a few thousand pounds in in app purchases.
I’ve informed my bank of the fraud and they are investigating but should I do anything else? Should I contact the police? My friend said it’s a waste of time but surely they can contact google and perhaps track the person down via ip addresses or something? I know it’s a long shot but I’m just so angry this has happened.

You don't need to do anything more.
The police won't be contacting Google. Leave it to the card company - they're the ones who have been defrauded.2 -

I don’t understand why the bank wouldn’t want to get the police involved. Surely it wouldn’t be too difficult for google to help track the purchases if the police chose to investigate. Is this simply just how these things are? Is it a case of resources or that no one can be bothered?0

The bank DO NOT lose the money, they get it back for the retailer. It is up to the retailer to get the police involved.Libertine12 said:I don’t understand why the bank wouldn’t want to get the police involved. Bank has no more details on who or where the person is than you do. Of course Google do, but it would have to be a lot of money before they would even bother to contact the police. Of course unless it is a claimants family member.Life in the slow lane0 -
You could try a SAR to Google just to see what happens. Do not mention fraud in the request.Libertine12 said:Someone got hold of my card details and appears to have used them to create a google play account and run up a few thousand pounds in in app purchases.I’ve informed my bank of the fraud and they are investigating but should I do anything else?

You would need to know the account details the fraudster set up to do that.brianposter said:

Could you clarify what this means.

I suppose everyone will get their money from the person/company next down the line. I suppose that the company who would lose out are the insurers at the bottom of the food-chain...but they still get their income via their premium...
Everyone is a winner...

Fraud is just a risk of online business which companies like Google will budget for - just like supermarkets budget for 'shrinkage' (i.e. shoplifting etc) of between about 2% and 6%.
Since Google will end up losing the money, it's up to them whether they decide to report it to the police.
Or they may think that you're lying, and you really did make the purchases - in which case they might chase you for the money and/or report you to the police for fraud.
Or if your identity details were used, Google could decide to close your Google accounts and refuse to let you open new ones.0
