Carers allowance

My PIP is ending on May 30th they are not extending it due to the current situation because as it is fixed term award from my tribunal judgement. Started renewal process Jan 2020 so now I am awaiting a telephone assessment which could take weeks to get final decision. My question is because my partner is claiming income related esa and pip herself we get a severe disability premium of just over £130 a week which we will lose when my pip ends. So I wonder if should claim a carers allowance when it does end we would be £30 a week better off if I did but is it worth it or should  I just wait till my renewal is done and the sdp kicks back in if successful.

I'm not sure what your question is here but if it's regarding your award being extended, then that's correct because they can't extend an award given by the Tribunal.
Have you applied again for PIP?

tHE op states he applied for renewal of PIP in Jan 2020 and awaiting decision.
His question is , since  they will lose the severe disability premium when current award ceases 30 May, can he claim carer's allowance?

Hmm how odd, that wasn't what it said when i first commented, in fact there was very little information given and that's why i said i wasn't sure what the question was. I wish i'd quoted the comment now.

OP, if you apply for carers allowance for your partner now then if your PIP is successfully awarded again and you apply for SDP, this will mean that your partner will not qualify for SDP during the time you were claiming the carers allowance. Whether you apply for CA is your decision.

At the time poppy replied I don't think the opening post said that - it was not clarified until later.
OP, if you are reasonably confident that you can get PIP reinstated I recommend that you do not apply for Carers Allowance. There are four reasons for this
    1) If you claim CA there may be a perceived conflict between your caring and the grounds for which you are claiming PIP.
    2) If you then try and give up CA later in order to get the SDP reinstated (because it's worth more than the carer premium) DWP may refuse to allow you to do this if they consider that you are only doing so in order to increase the amount of benefit payable.
    3) In my experience CA claims take two or three months to process (I have never understood why as it should be one of th simplest benefits to process) so by the time you get a decision you will hopefully already have had a PIP decision.
    4) If you PIP is reinstated you will get the SDP fully backdated to the date it stopped nut if you have been awarded CA you will only get the single SDP not the double SDP so will have made a net loss.

I remember seeing it at about the time you posted and didn't respond because I couldn't see a question. Noted that it had been edited later than when you posted Mind you spending too much time on these forums can make you think you're going bonkers!

Sorry poppy I had posted before I finished writing it and then edited it which is why you only saw a little bit of it first.

The way that the new forum shows that a post has been edited doesn't help. On the old forum the edit time would appear below a post, now it appears alongside the post time / date and above the text and so is easy to overlook.

I too agree with what calcotti is saying when I was awarded pip at my original tribunal I was at the time claiming carers allowance for my partner and dwp made big fuss at tribunal about me claiming carers allowance at the same time as claiming pip but I was able to prove there is nothing physical I do in the 35 or more hours in caring for my mentally ill partner but as soon as my pip award started i obviously stopped the carers allowance in order to get the sdp couples rate. So I am going to leave it this time and just wait it out hopefully get renewed soon I don't think dwp would be happy if I claimed carers again and stopped it again.
