Surely your contract for car is with Car Del Mar and not Budget? I would be raising the second payment as a fraudulent transaction with credit card provider.
    Hello,
Exactly, that´s how I see it too. The original charge by CarDelMar stands and was not contested, I contested the second payment by Budget as unauthorised.
What do the contract Ts & Cs say about the use of the supplied payment card for post-rental charges, such as damage, law enforcement admin, etc?  My understanding is that car hire bookings typically include the framework for such charges to be applied without further explicit authorisation in certain circumstances, potentially by the actual supplier rather than the agent - clearly it still needs to be possible for the customer to challenge such charges in cases such as this where there is no explanation of what they're for, but there's not usually any obligation for the customer to expressly accept the specific charge before it's applied, as obviously nobody would do so!

Until it comes back with the customers details on and a copy of the t/c

Remember many of these companies are part of the same group, but things like fines & their charges often come via the parent co.
This is a good site if caught in such a issue.

Binding on the hire co when they rule.

Going to dig out the CarDelMar T&C but no doubt they will cover the possibility of post-rental charges, especially for damage and fines etc which can´t often be determined until the car is returned, and much longer after for fines. Although, shouldn´t they have to notify you, or at least be able to confirm, what the charges are for though... When I contacted Budget in Switzerland after my return, even after 4 lengthy phone calls they could not tell me what the post rental charges were for. Ridiculous. In my case there was certainly no damage, I suppose it could be a fine for speeding, but that sounds like an excessive amount, over 500£ (although, it is Switzerland)... I think it´s doubtful as the charge was made the day after I returned the car, I don´t think even Swiss efficiency would get a find to the car hire company that quickly.

Yes, I agree with all of that - just to be clear, my post was specifically in response to the idea of disputing the charge as being fraudulent or unauthorised on the basis of it being levied by Budget, whereas its validity should be challenged for other reasons....
