Can you hide/ignore a specific thread?

I’ve tried putting the thread starter on my ignore list but that doesn’t make the thread itself go away, just all their posts except the first one!
It’s a long running thread that the user updates constantly so it keeps popping to the top of the page rather annoyingly, really it should be in a diary section or on their own blog, but hey ho.
Is there a way to not see it?

As you say, if you have ignored the OP, then you should not see any of their replies to any thread
