Unoccupied Property Insurance

I get a text after every visit and the heating is set to come on if the temperature drops below 12.dacouch said:
If there is a requirement to inspect, I strongly recommend that if you or a neighboor is doing it that you keep a record of each visit along with any notes on changes to the property or action you took. Ideally have this as a record off site or in the cloud, it can be very helpful if there is a claim and the Insurer wants proof you were complying with the inspection clauseLover_of_Lycra said:
That's good to know. Luckily I'm on good terms with my neighbours although sadly I'm missing out on all the baking.davidmcn said:Insurers have been relaxing such conditions on existing policies at least, I expect they may be doing so on new cover too (given that people don't necessarily have much choice about insuring properties which they're not allowed to visit).0 -
I have been through this process this week and took advice from an old thread:

I'm looking to use Vasek in the end - just waiting to find out exactly who the underwriter is... not clear on website
It covers all the usual stuff as if I were living there including accidental damage AND escape of water
with usual regular visit, upkeep and Winter month heating on to cover escape of water over the period
Im after short term until the house is sold but can say that Vasek still do 3/6/12mth options.
3/6mth - no cancellation/pro rata return
You can cancel with the 12mth option.
You can pay by installment with the 12mth option - NO INTEREST.
Cancellation on 12mth will return pro rata amount if you pay in full upfront - less £45 fees.
Cancellation on 12mth if you pay by installment will return nothing with a £20 cancellation fee
Other option ukinsurancenet £100 cheaper annual price but less favourable cancellation or don't cover escape of water.
And will cost me more over 3/6 months I need it.

Thanks @sad_woman, the chap from A Plan never got back to me so I've skadooshed them. Aviva have me covered until 25th June so I've got time to do some investigating and having the option for short term cover would be useful.0

My mum used https://www.guardcover.co.uk/unoccupied-property-insurance/ for her unoccupied property insurance. Good price, option for no visits (which was important due to the current challenge and the fact the property was 90 miles away). May be worth a look 👀 They had some
guides (either on the site or on LinkedIn - can’t remember) which were useful as she’d never needed this type of insurance before.1 -
In the end I managed to get a policy using Nova Insurance brokers. The insurance is with Holava, never heard of them but everything appears to be kosher. That should tide me over until the social distancing restrictions in Scotland are lifted enough to finish getting my property sorted and tenants found.0
