Your HP laptop comes with a one-year subscription to Office 365 – including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Access – and 1 TB of cloud storage with OneDrive.
It's well-known that Office 365 is an online subscription suite, not a "hard copy" or installed version Word, Excel, etc. That would be Microsoft Office (as opposed to Office 365).1 -
Well, you already answered yourself in the beginning when you said "I went with the cheapest"
Anyway I looked the parameters of that pc, and they are not good at all...
However, I think that it's really strange that you can't return it.0 -

You beat me to it and I find it most amusing that people are defending Curry's by making up "facts."
You are correct that Office 2019 does not offer onedrive or skype or installing on multiple devices but does have most of the rest of the features of Microsoft 365 Personal2 -
OP, you will probably find that the Stream has been running so slowly and lagging is that it is downloading in the back windows updates. You've compounded this by installing local copies of Office. What this means it that the Stream will now run out of local storage space (and eMMC is roughly equivalent to soldering an SD card on to the motherboard - i.e. slow), at which point you will need to uninstall Office and all of the other chuff that is on the machine, and possibly connect an external drive, to allow the updates to complete their download and install. Once all of that is complete, then install your required Office apps (if you must), but be aware that performance will continue to not be great. Hopefully better with the update process completed, but still not great.2

Update on this: I still have heard NOTHING from Currys and I have taken this up with my credit card company. No outcome yet.ToxicWomble said:I would suggest that the OPs research and due diligence was not for for purposeI wonder if this kind of commenting is in any way productive, or if you just want to be nasty.Aylesbury_Duck said:

Those Celeron chips - coupled with the 32emmc should make these bags of rubbish illegal, never mind not fit for purpose ..The were absolutely horrible decades ago when they first came out.I have never seen one that runs anything smoothly - even the windows install that it comes installed with.OP - it is definitely not fit , for ANY purpose . Persist for your refund0

I used to retail laptops, and it was always a struggle to drag someone away from the 'billy bargain' section to gain significantly more performance for minimal outlay - but they were always grateful afterwards!
After all, fitness for purpose is a very personal thing and I would likely manage OK with something very low-powered for the basic websites I surf in my free time.
To look at it another way - I would find a 0.9L Dacia Sandero utterly useless as I need to tow around a fair bit of weight, and I enjoy having some spare acceleration 'in the bag' for when I need to pass other motorists.
Would everyone say a Dacia Sandero isn't fit for purpose? No, but to me it wouldn't be.0
