Hi
I am retired. I have had Santander 123 account for 5 years.
I have been rejected for a zero credit card. No history of credit problems. I'm surprised.
Is this common? Should I apply for the more basic card?
I used to have a Barclay card but they took it off me because I didn't use it.

Each bank has their own criteria and risk appetite. At the moment, belts are being tightened.
You could look elsewhere, but if you are taking out a credit card. At least use it.
The excuse I only want one for emergency is a pointless exercise.Life in the slow lane0 -

I used to have a Barclay card but they took it off me because I didn't use it.You simply might not fit the customer profile Santander is looking for in a customer, I should imagine with whats going on in the world at the moment credit providers might be a little more strict. If Barclaycard closed your account because you weren't using it, then why do you want the Zero Card, were you going to use it more than your previous card?Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -

A chargeback on a debit/credit card has unlimited amount. S75 (and would not be used where a company goes bust) is a Max of £30KLife in the slow lane0 -
I thought a credit card had a bit more protection. They did the work on your behalf and got 100% back,
It's about £10K0 -
A credit card does have a bit of extra protection S75 which covers Breech of Contract & Misrepresentation. TBH, it is not used that much.
Debit/Credit Card provider will action chargeback for you (no charge) Retailer can contest. Just the same as a card provider can reject a S75 claim.Life in the slow lane0 -

S75 is legally enforceable, chargeback isn't.
OP you can appeal the refusal...is more likely to be favourable if they are your main current account.2 -
Why do you think the company may go bust? If this is a genuine concern, should you really be considering a purchase from them.I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.0
