Vodafone dispute

I have a Vodafone dispute from 2016/2017 that I have only recently realised is causing an issue with my Credit rating as they marked it as a default. This stemmed from an issue I had with a bill where they told me not to pay anything until it was resolved, unfortunately this was over the phone so no proof of this. Anyway eventually they took it to a debt collection agency who after hearing my story said they wanted a discussion between myself, them and Voda on the phone. However, Vodafone said they could not do this due to data protection (why when customer and debt collection agency were requesting this) and after this the debt collection agency (Zinc) said they would send my case back to Vodafone. After this I had no contact with Vodafone. They supposably sent a deadlock letter (twice) which I never received (before the debt collection agency got involved) I got in touch with the Ombudsman but as it has been over a year they say I should contact Vodafone and complain again before they can get involved. I was just wondering if people felt it was worth contacting Vodafone or if I should just leave it, as know it will come off my credit file after 6 years (another 2/3 to go).
