RAC Renewal HELP

Hi Guys,

I have made a massive error by not cancelling my auto renewal with RAC, they have just charged my account over £500 nearly double what it was last year. I lost my job due to Covid and there is no way I can pay it. They have taken the entire amount and I am worried sick as I simply can't afford it, I have literally nearly been sick. Do you think there is any way I could get refunded and I can cancel this as I see nothing anywhere on the website or the documentation saying that I am allowed to do this. I have tried calling my bank but nothing seems to be going through.

Thank you for being a member of the RAC, the UK’s most experienced breakdown provider. With over 1600 dedicated patrols, we’re here when you need us. Your policy will renew automatically on 2 May 2020 so you’re covered for the year ahead. Please check your Policy Schedule overleaf and Terms & Conditions, if anything needs to change just give us a call on 0330 1590 541.

Talk to the RAC and see what they'll do.

    That is a huge sum

Is this for breakdown cover, or for car insurance?

They say you made changes over the past year - what were they?

    This is for breakdown cover

last year I used quidco cash back and got the whole deal for Around £110 including cash back. I added a new car which I paid a little extra for at the time, but I didn’t know the renewal would be this much. I simply can’t afford it.

Isn't that just a mistake. Did they put 4 new tyres on last year that you haven't paid for?

By law there's a 14 day cooling off period so phone them up and cancel under that. They may make a pro-rata charge for the few days cover but you should get the vast majority, if not all of it back.

    Tyre Replace
We’ll pay for replacement tyres if you have accidental, malicious damage or puncture to your tyres, from £5 per month or £60 per year

    Something's not adding up here

My thoughts won't help the OP. I think the future tyre charge possibly relates to many new cars not having a spare wheel. So the OP is driving the car and a tyre gets trashed, calls out RAC and they supply & fit new tyre.
