Octopus Energy
Options
Hi
Does anyone else out there find the Octopus energy bill statement an awful pain? I just want to view my bill usage not an annual countdown from what they perceive might be how much my usage/total for the year might be, minus what I've just used that month. It's really confusing. On the bill, everything is a minus even the actual cost that you owe that month....
I might have to swap suppliers, it's doing my head in....I was with the Co-op energy and Octopus took over from them. I explained to Octopus that this was not how I wanted to view my bills but they said this is the way everyone else has their bills so it has to stay....Grrr

You can find more feedback on energy supplier, Octopus, here.

Perhaps you can find some comments there on their billing format?
But a typical Octopus bill should look something like this:

On the bill, everything is a minus even the actual cost that you owe that month....I can't match what you say you are seeing with anything I see on Octopus...Are you actually looking at the 'bills' section of the website or are you just looking at the 'How my balance is calculated' section? The bills are perfectly clear and look just like every other supplier I've been with. The balance section of the website can get a bit confusing at times but just ignore that and check the bill...

The high amount is what they calculate for the year...then the minus figure at the bottom is what I'm guessing is my outstanding balance to pay. Thank you for your screenshot, my pdf bill looks nothing like that. Looks different to your screenshot.0

That bill is in the right format, but I don't think it has anything to do with annual forecasts.According to that, on the 11th of April you owed them £704.42. they then applied a charge of £27.38 for gas which would take you to £731.80 owed to them. Then you have a credit for £593.63 for your electricity, which reduces the amount you owe down to only £136.17, and it is this amount, £136.17 that they are asking you to pay.Somewhere you should have some details of how that electricity number was made up, part of it should be a negative number for the electricity used in the period and then there will be another positive number which will most likely be made up from either previous payments you have made, or even a credit that was built up with Coop and then transferred to Octopus. The weird formatting may be down to the fact that Octopus do not usually support customers with monthly credit accounts, they are geared up to support direct debits.2

I find Octopus massively transparent if you give meter readings as asked. You get the bill almost immediately...1

Likewise .They ask me for meter readings i give them and have a bill within 48 hours .0

Just changed to Octopus Energy.
The took the first two payments (£175.88) as agreed. Sent them the first reading after 6 weeks. This showed about £175 of usage after 6 weeks, but they told me they would charge £272.60 for the next bill, based on their estimate of usage. I asked them to delay this increase until the next 2 meter readings and filled in the online form to change the payment to £180. They took £291.94. The account is now in credit for £311 (more than the last months payment. When I contacted them they said told me they had not had access to their computer, but they would take the monthly payment back down to £180. No refund, no credit.
I can understand that the monthly payment me not cover year round use, but right no its more than twice the monthly usage, and the credit on the account is twice the original monthly payment (after only 2 months with the provider).
