Shell broadband service

Hi
recently taken out a broadband contract with Shell but the WiFi keeps dropping out and is utterly useless. Apparently Shell customer service is useless so not much point in complaining. Surely it must be the router as the they use the same network ?. I had reasonable signal before i switched from talk talk and i used my old plusnet router with them as it worked better than the talk talk router.
I have tried using the plusnet router with the shell broadband but the red internet light comes on surely any router will work what else can i try
many thanks

Surely notAny router may or may not work .Wifi dropping out usually users fault , faulty router is rare . Factory Reset the router and set up again .Is it only wifi dropping out ??or the internet .Have you checked routers input .Do you have old router and settings for current ISP ??0

That will be in the router , log in to the router . Use your ISPs instructions likewise ISP settings .Router its something like connection status downstream .1

Pretty much any router setup for a UK vDSL connection will work with Shell Energy Broadband. Try your old router, you never know it might just work without making any changes.
Itmgith be worth installing a WiFi analyzer app on a smart phone and looking at what channel the hub is broadcasting the 2.4 Ghz and 5Ghz signals on. You can also walk around with it and check the signal strength in each room. It might be that your hub is trying to use the same channels as they neighbours WiFi access points, so you are dealing with a lot of interference.
The other question I would ask, is how many devices are you connecting to the WiFi hub?
The router that Shell supplies, although it's no frills, is actually not too bad and should be fine for most domestic situations. We need to work out why it is not working so well in your home environment - doing a wireless survey of your home with a WiFi analyzer app on a mobile phone is a good starting point.
A dream is not reality, but who's to say which is which?1 -
I'm.having the same issues with Shell broadband. The signal just keeps dropping out. It was totally fine with Vodafone, the isp I had before. Only one device connected to the Internet, and can't watch one episode of Alan Partridge without it stopping every 15mins... working from home next week not sure how that's going to pan out.... any suggestions?1

-Purchased the Shell Broadband for my Mother last March 2020. Signal keeps dropping when she is on WhatsApp, and has a clear line to the router as she can see it from the sitting room to the hallway.0

If it helps.
I also got a shell deal and was having problems with lag, packet drop etc. The modem supplied could not handle my family traffic.
I swapped it for a BT home hub 5 from a previous contract by entering the login and password details from the shell router. Not had a problem since.
It was simple to do, and also allowed me to add an extender modem.1 -
Having similar issues with Shell broadband. Impossible to watch tv without it buffering every few seconds. Devices drop out regularly. Had no problem with EE. I still have the EE router. Could anyone advise if this would work?0

Did you all go for the cheapest monthly price for your broadband?
Have any of you considered using your own equipment for the modem / router given that the free ISP modem on your cheap as chips deal is utter shizzle?
Whilst I understand that on a money saving forum that the cheapest deal is king, there is quality to consider as well and that is where most people go wrong with their broadband deals.
That free ISP wifi router is simply junk to get you online. The supplier has given you their guaranteed internet speeds as for as the modem and that is all, they aren't responsible beyond that point and you are a sucker to believe that the free router is anything more than a piece of junk.
Let's compare, I have 550mps broadband speed and all devices get that speed throughout my house. I can still do video calls 30 metres from my wifi router without any problems. Nobody has drop outs or buffering despite 30 devices connected to my wifi and another 10 ethernet wired devices.
I pay twice as much as the cheapest broadband deal but get 10 times the speed and have my own wifi router that cost £270 when bought 3 years ago. But I have zero problems. You get what you pay for.
Wake up everyone and take control.1
