Undercharged

Options
Just checking through all my services to see if I can save any money on different packages / providers etc.
Anyways i've just discovered that my internet provider has been undercharging me to the tune of approx £23 per month. I'm currently only paying them £5 a month for broadband & line rental, obviously I need to ring them up to get it sorted, is there a limit on how far back they can charge me for the services? It's not an issue as I have the cash available to pay as it is just wondered if there's a legal limit they can bill back to?

I've had a number of issues with their billing systems in the past and thought i'd cracked it the last time when they said they'd sorted out a different problem, never thought to check at the time though when next bill was produced.

You may find if you decide to move away or change package with the provider the system will eventually notice, so you may find the problem will eventually take care of itself, albeit by a bigger bill.
But on the other hand if you do move to another provider or change package and nothing happens with regards to this, you'll be away scott free.

This is more a moral issue as opposed to anything else.  If you do report it you're almost certainly going to be hit with a bigger bill to cover the discrepancy (and then that raises the issue if whether you'd be able to afford to pay it) and you might feel better, but on the other hand  if the provider's system hasn't noticed and no human has noticed, that's their problem.

Bit like if you find a large amount of money somewhere.  Should you hand it in or pocket it?
  • Got round to ringing them up today, they've said as it's not my fault I've been undercharged they won't attempt to bill me for the last 6 months. They've not got a timescale at the moment as to when the bill will go back to how it should be given they are so busy with limited staff, it's getting sorted at least

Plusnet ?  They paid me to have broadband and line rental for a whole year B)   They self imposed a max 3 month back billing code when their systems went into meltdown after an upgrade.
  • Yh Plusnet, around September home they attempted to charge me an early disconnection fee as their automated system decided to terminate my line, took 2 months to get that sorted as I cancelled the DD and refused to pay them until it was sorted, they sorted it but then obviously messed something up and only started billing that fiver a month.

I didn't think to check the bills after they'd sorted it just assumed it was sorted properly
