Yes, totally agree!ToxicWomble said:This is the problem with just giving out 80% wage for people to sit around at home all day and treat it like a big holiday - it’s the same mentality for the lockdown breaches.
Imo it should have been either:
a) Less money
b) A loan that needed paying back
c) Only given to those who undertook voluntary work
For once- the government has been extraordinarily generous and it’s being abused massively.
Wait for the reckoning when all this needs paying for.
They should've just gave people mortgage holidays, council tax breaks and just cover peoples rents for 2/ 3 months if they're out of work. They could've even gave everybody a basic universal income for supplies to tide them over
80% is far too generous to just give away and i think it's completely unfair the people who do not get anything should pay this back in increased taxes next year.
One things for certain, the furlough scheme will come to an end in June... 100%!

Being asked to go back to work is GOOD NEWS!
Plastering an empty house can be done while maintaining social distancing and presumably the period of furlough was used by your employer to work out procedures to ensure this is the case. You cannot do your work from home. You should be flattered that he has chosen you in first, as you say, choosing employees based on skill. That also means you are likely to be more protected if there is a down-turn and any redundancies follow, as one of the best workers the employer has.
Of course, that works with a flip side too as, if there are future redundancies down the line, then the employer will assess the value of "an employee that is great at his job but does not want to turn up when a bit of an opportunity for paid break arises" versus "an employee who is OK, but very reliable" - OK and reliable may trump great but slacker.
Furlough is not there to give people a leisurely holiday at the tax-payers' expense. This is easily remembered if using the formal title "Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme" - in this case it has worked as intended and your job is retained going forwards. A success
Would you rather have been asked back to work, following a shortish period on furlough, or just receive a letter of redundancy?

What about those of us who have possibly risked our lives every day going into work so that you and your family can get fed? Was that fair?
Are you the only person in the UK that hasn't noticed its the lowest paid in society that is keeping the country going? The dustmen, the delivery drivers, the shop staff, those that work growing, picking and processing the food you eat, the careworkers
How is that fair that we are on NMW and yet are VITAL to society, not just right now but all the time
You have had 4 or 5 weeks holiday at the cost to the tax payer, say thanks and get out there and go earn some money to put something back in7 -
Sadly, us tax payers facilitate the OP etc to have these thoughts, so many people are happy to let us carry them through life, they have no sense of pride or worth.
