So basically you are asking is it fair for you to go back to work?

    Words fail me.

Simple really, if you don't go back to work then you won't get paid.. The government haven't advised people not to work, they advise is to work from home if you can. If you can't and work is available then you can work but you must stick to social distancing rules.

Just sums up what's wrong with society.

You should think of it like this... if I get called back into work early I'm less likely to be made redundant when/if the economy nosedives.

Or..."i am being asked back in but the other guys arent, i must be better than the others"

Take it as a compliment for crying out loud.

your your employer can choose who and when he furloughs, if you are chosen to return to work then there isn’t a great deal that can be done.

Furlough and lockdown isn’t going to last forever and people are going to need to understand that. We cannot stay in our houses till we have a vaccine, it simply isn’t possible.

You might not class plastering as essential but your employer disagrees and they can choose to remain open in these times, they of course should be implementing the relevant health and safety advice.

Furloughing is entirely at the employer's discretion. Only certain businesses are closed due to Covid 19, some retail and the majority of leisure/entertainment; the building trade can continue to operate.

Matters do not have to be fair in employment just lawful. Refuse to attend work and you will probably get no money, your employer will cease to furlough you. When you return, expect a disciplinary, possibly resulting in dismissal.

So the choice is yours "fairness" (whatever that is) or money in your pocket and continued employment.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

will you be coming on here in a couple of months time saying you’ve been at a company for ten years, other people that have been there less have been made redundant is that fair?

your working in an empty house, hundreds of thousands of people that have continued working in hospitals, care homes, supermarkets and the like would have lived to sit at home for a month whilst the taxpayers pay them 80% of their wage before you begrudgingly returned to work in an empty house. We don’t see so many entitled questions from them asking if it’s fair.

People who can work from home should work from home, and employers should facilitate this.  Otherwise as long as employers are following relevant H&S then its fine to carry on working.

Not sure whats so confusing to be honest, its fairly simple.  If you want to keep your job and get paid, you go back to work.

I think a lot of people who seem to think they have some sort of right to just refuse to attend work and will be protected by this situation are going to be in for a bit of a shock, one way or another.....

This is the problem with just giving out 80% wage for people to sit around at home all day and treat it like a big holiday - it’s the same mentality for the lockdown breaches.
Imo it should have been either:
    a) Less money
    b) A loan that needed paying back
    c) Only given to those who undertook voluntary work
For once- the government has been extraordinarily generous and it’s being abused massively.
Wait for  the reckoning when all this needs paying for.
