Iceland store car park fine.

Hi All
A few days ago I went into Iceland after parking up in their car park but I forgot to pay the £1 parking fee. Today I got a parking charge notice from a company called EXCEL Parking. They are fining me £100 for this so called offense.  Can anyone tell me if they can legally do this, if they can it's way too excessive.

hi, and welcome to the forum ........

"Can anyone tell me if they can legally do this, if they can it's way too excessive. "
    sadly yes they can ....

there will be plenty for you to read up on ...

go to the newbies thread/ discussion

but first complain to the manager at Iceland not customer services and let him/her know that you will be complaining to head office ......

    or

if you are now in lockdown complain straight to Iceland CEO head office

Richard Walker (MD) was on breakfast time TV just a couple of days ago telling the world how important customers are to Iceland. Write to him to complain - and remind him!
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

This is the same as all the other ICELAND threads. Please search the forum!
We had one this week and there's no need to repeat everything; all you do is complain to Iceland.

No-one is fining anybody, what they have sent you is an invoice, which you only need pAY IF A JUDGE SO ORDERS IT.  eVERYTHING IS EXPLAINED IN THE NEWBIES THREAD AT THE TOP OF THE INDEX PAGE, PLEASE READ IT.

Nine times out of ten these tickets are scams, so consider complaining to your MP, it can cause the scammer extra costs and work, and has been known to get the charge cancelled.

Parliament is well aware of the MO of these private parking companies, many of whom are former clampers, and on 15th March 2019 a Bill was enacted to curb the excesses of these shysters. Codes of Practice are being drawn up, an independent appeals service will be set up, and access to the DVLA's date base more rigorously policed, persistent offenders denied access to the DVLA database and unable to operate.

Hopefully, when life gets back to normal, it will become impossible for those scammers who are left to continue their vile trade, but until this is done you should still complain to your MP, citing the new legislation.

Just as the clampers were finally closed down, so hopefully will many of these Private Parking Companies.
