Paid in a cheque today with barclays

Hello everyone,

Hope everyone is well. I just have a question. I paid in a cheque with Barclays today the amount is only £300+ from hmrc. I just checked my online banking and it is showing as in has been paid in but has not changed the amount of money I have in my account? Shall I wait until tomorrow? The banker said it will take a day to clear but just dont understand why it is showing as it has been paid in already.

Hope you will be able to give me advise regarding this. Thank you and have a good evening 😊

https://www.barclays.co.uk/ways-to-bank/mobile-banking-services/future-of-cheques/#cheque explains that cheques show almost immediately, with the funds being available by the end of the next working day.

I paid one in through the mobile app yesterday and the available balance increased immediately.

Yep, I'm sure. If it wasn't straight away, it was certainly within hours.

Just been back and checked. Cheque was paid in at about 1300 and was included in the closing balance last night, and was definitely available funds.

It's not midnight yet. Did you read the link posted by eskbanker?
If you pay in cheques at a branch, they’ll now clear much faster. You’ll typically be able to withdraw your funds by 23:59 on the next weekday1 (as long as the cheque hasn’t bounced) – much quicker than the old paper-based process, which took up to six days..
    and:
We’ve upgraded all of our branches for cheque imaging, so cheques paid in at a branch before its cut-off time the weekday before will clear by 23:59 the next weekday.

Before Cheque imaging - did not Barclays let you have instant clearance on cheques up to £x amount? I think this might have only applied to creditworthy customers who had an arranged overdraft with full accounts. Could this be a reason the cheque cleared for Shakin_steve but not the OP?
