CAR TARGET GROUP or VEHICLE RENT In Administration....

Afternoon all,
I booked a car rental for Naples Italy on the 1st of August 2019 through Vehicle Rent, the car rental supplier was B-Rent. The rental was fine and reasonably priced.
However.... I just received an email from B-Rent, 30.04.2020, saying that they had not been paid by the Car Target Group, so i was liable for the outstanding sum. An hour before i received this email, they took the full rental cost from my card. Cheeky ******.
Looking in the Car Target Group it appears that they went into administration last month.
If they can come after me 9 months later, i dread to think how many other people this could affect.
I am trying to get my card company to block the charge, but is suppose otherwise it will be an insurance claim. It's criminal that both companies would do this given the current hardship people find themselves in.

Hi there,
The exact same thing happened to me today with Car Target Group/Vehicle Rent for renting a car in Naples mid-September.
Can I ask how you got on with blocking the charge with your card company? If that didn't work, did you claim on insurance? If so, what type of cover did you have/use?
Thanks,

I've just had the same thing happen.
On 15 July 2019 I booked car hire in Italy for Aug-Sept 2019 on 15 July 2019 and the hire went ahead as expected. However Ecovia (hire company) has emailed today to say that vehicle-rental.com (broker) didn't pay them and that they're holding me liable under their Ts&Cs.
Halifax (credit card provider) doesn't want to know as it's outside of their 180-day limit for "service not provided" but they have raised a Section 75 claim that could take 14 days, despite the car hire company threatening to initiate a recovery process after 10 days.
@DanMad01 and @Josh_Golly - How did you get on?1 -
Me too. Paid for the car in October 2019 and received a message from Ecovia in Italy today, that they were unable to take the money from my card and giving me 10 days to pay or legal proceedings will follow. I don't fancy court proceedings but would like to see some evidence from Ecovia that I could pass on to Barclaycard in the hope of them giving me a refund.
@RPowell - have you paid Ecovia, or waiting for Halifax? Was the amount over the £100 required for Section 75?

You’ve paid in good faith already, them not being paid by the agent is their issue not yours.0

Mattyprice4004 is correct as regards the law of agency in England but it is usual when you pick up any hire car here or overseas that a term of the contract is an undertaking to pay the fees if the car hire company is not paid by the agent and it is that contractual term that is being relied upon.0

Hi, just wondering if anybody has any further information on this? I received an email this week asking me to repay 67 Euro from 2019. Fortunately, the card I had used at the time has expired and they couldn't take payment automatically. Should I pay? They have said it will go to their legal dept....but unsure if they would chase 67 euro. Plus, I've already paid in my mind when I paid the other company...1

Collection was attempted months ago but given I had no informaiton I blocked the payment. Now Ecovia have contected me direct and my card provider seems to be blocking me even making a section 75 claim. I am going to complain to the card provider that they have not even given the chance to submit a section 75 and go from there.
I don't want to pay but would like to hire a car in Italy at some point and don't want to have the inevitable issues at the desk when that happens.0 -
Hi everyone, I'm finding myself in the exact same position and I was wondering if anyone in this thread had any news on their case? Have you paid? Have Ecovia lawyers served you as they detailed in their original email? Thanks.
