Very S-L-O-W draining blocked kitchen sink, plunging makes it worse...

  • Is it just the force of the air and or/water being forced downwards thats making the black plastic overflow pipe come clean loose?

As for that Screwfix plunger/vacuum, loads of people gave it terrible reviews (no matter how cheap it costs), and our plughole has a screw in the middle like the below one (highlight of my day googling plug hole photos!), so how could you jet water into the drain if the nozzle is in the middle, or suck up water vice versa. Sorry, I'm tired. Forgive the lack of plumbing knowledge terms here.

    Any other suggestions please?
  • Can you get to the pipe outside? If you can see if you can undo a join there and see if water runs freely from there.

if you can't get to any joins further down the pipe run you are left with pouring something like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/HG-Liquid-Drain-Unblocker-1L/dp/B000IU3VS0 into it and leaving it overnight.
  • Thanks, we live in a rented flat on the 3rd floor and the pipework is boxed in when it goes to the right, out of the kitchen and into the next room (the bathroom).

That stuff says do not use on zinc or aluminium, I have no idea what this kitchen sink is made of but more importantly it states:
    • Causes severe skin burns and eye damage
    • Causes serious eye damage
We can't chance using that with a toddler in the flat, thank you anyway.
One review also said the water sat for 16 hours and it still didn't shift even with that in.
Really don't want to get a plumber in :(
    Will check back tomorrow.

  • Well I did say 'something like this'

Are your neighbours having similar problems?

The Screwfix unblocker totally covers the whole plug hole so the screw in the middle doesn't have any effect.
I don't know about all of the bad reviews, all I know is that the 2 times I've had to use it, it worked for me.

Yes, I've always had success with the Screwfix one. The suction pulling the handle up seems to loosen the blockage better than the forcing down.

I think you are going to have to bite the bullet and call a plumber out.

Took apart the pipe (circled green) and emptied the water out
There's an obvious blockage further down we can't get to and i couldn't loosen the part circled in red, but doubt that's where the blockage is :(

When you have the pipe (green)off, and the red connector if possible, can you push a flexible wire down (past the bend/s ) to see if it hits any obstruction and if so try and break up the blockage or pull it back. Take care not to push any material further down the pipe unless its broken into smaller pieces.

I used one of these , although on an outside drain rather than a sink when our pipe cleaners wouldn't go round a very tight bend.  The thrill when the clog gave way
