Car insurance policy cancelled by insurers
My son insured his van back in March via an insurance broker called QuoteLine Direct, his insurance eventually was with Bollington insurance for a total sum of £560.62 which was paid in full.
Yesterday he received a letter stating that his policy had been cancelled due to having 0 years no claims. He does have no claims . They stated it was because he had another vehicle which his no claims is being used on that . This is untrue. He does occasionally use his partners car but he is just a named driver on her policy.
When he was filling in the forms they asked if he had access to another vehicle which he stated he had.
They are now only refunding £200 out of the total paid to them and said it will take 60 days for him to receive it.
Is this legal or a scam
Also he has my husband as a named driver on the policy but had to fill in on the form all my husbands driving licence details which I’ve never heard before when listing a named driver
Just need advice before we phone up and kick off
Many thanks

It sounds like an admit error, has he been on the phone to them to try and sort it out?

Yes he has . Just looked at their reviews and 93% scored them as bad with most complaints regarding exactly the same thing.

And note that he needs to do it ... you (or any named driver) has no part in any of this as only he has the contract with them.

Your son most likely didn't send them any proof of the no claims discount from his previous insurer. Asking for driving licence details of all drivers is not uncommon.
Also as DoaM says, HE has to sort this out, not you, because the company won't deal with you as you're not their customer. And you doing everything for him will do him a massive disservice as he'll never ever learn to sort things out on his own.

What proof of the NCB entitlement did he provide to the new insurer?
If the van is newly acquired, then where did this NCB come from? And how long had it been sat idle, since it was last "used"?Also he has my husband as a named driver on the policy but had to fill in on the form all my husbands driving licence details which I’ve never heard before when listing a named driver
Perfectly normal to be asked for licence numbers for all drivers - it's to check with DVLA and ensure they've been given the correct information about entitlement and convictions.2 -
The no claims was not previously gained with the van.Yes he has a letter of proof from previous insurers of his no claims and a copy was sent to the new insurers.
And his no claimed was acquired with a car he drove up to March 2018. Since then he was a named driver on his partners car. He didn’t require a vehicle for work so he just used her car if and when he needed to0 -

No claims bonuses are normally only valid for a maximum of 2 years so it's probable that the NCB lapsed if there was more than 2 years between the 2 policies.

The worry now is will he have to state he has had a policy cancelled when trying to get now more expensive insurance?
He needs to discuss with existing insurance if any mistakes have been made and try and verify to get satisfactory outcome?
