Amending Holiday

  • We were booked for a holiday in Lanzarote in November this year, but as we care for both our Mother & grandson, we would not have been able to self-isolate for the required 14 days when coming back to the UK. We decided to amend our holiday to November 2021 instead, when hopefuly we will have a vacine for Covid-19. However, we have now been charged an Admin fee on top of the holiday price. Surely these are mitigating circumstances that we can not control.

As Holiday companies are going bust by the minute, surely by keeping the sale, its not a good time to charge the customer.
As you have already decided you don’t want to travel in November you will be bound by the terms you booked via.  You can’t pre-empt what you think the situation will be in November.  Which is why you are being charged the transfer fee plus possibly any increase in fare also?

You should have maybe waited to see what the situation is in November?

That's not how it works. Your money will be held in a client account that the travel company is unable to touch for now, so you're asking them to not be paid until November 2021.

Charging an admin fee is completely fair, as they need cashflow (which is actually more volatile for many companies now than net assets) to keep operating. The travel company can't control the circumstances either, and you have chosen to change the contract that you have with them.
