Apparently Dominic Cummings didn't want "to just let it rip":

Good link - but I prefer the original version https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-04-28/top-aide-to-u-k-s-johnson-pushed-scientists-to-back-lockdown without Guido Fawkes spin on it
The allegation I heard (not in the Guardian) was that Cummings originally wanted to 'let it rip', then changed his mind.  So his interference in SAGE (which Downing Street Denied) D could have been AFTER he had changed his mind.  So Guido Fawkes allegation against the Guardian is without foundation.
And then there's the consideration that the Guardian is a reputable global media company (even if you disagree with their political leanings), whilst Guido Fawkes is one person's opinion spouted on Twitter without any fear of recrimination.

It's a bit like comparing Cameron, Blair, Brown, Thatcher and the like to little Suzie Smith who ran the school tuck shop, and trying to decide who was more effective.

Yes but they bottled out when they realised the political damage of all the deaths happening at once -  NHS would sink without trace, corpses would pile up faster than they could be dealt with, the world would be watching, and people would point their finger at the politicians.
Heaven forbid we end up like Sweden.

Adults cannot have a grown up discussion without it being spun into playground chit chat on social media.

BA announce job losses. Due to a very obvious decline in demand for the foreseeable future.   Media spins the story into whether the Government should bailout the airline to save it from collapse. Where have all the good business journalists gone?

With everything shrouded in secrecy I don't know whether Cummings did change his mind about letting it rip.  But what other explanation is the for the Governments delay in sourcing PPE, lockdown, etc.
or, worst of all, delaying testing and quarantine at the borders until the virus is already established.  Being an island surrounded by water we had a huge advantage, but just didn't use it.

I think Guido Fawkes is just settling old scores with the Guardian, because they have called him out a few times.
Thats why I prefer the original Bloomberg version without his spin on it, so people can make up their own minds.

Hmmm, the fact that in your head there is only the one possible explanation would seem to make it clear where your sympathies towards political parties go.

Amazon didn't have it stock. The pandemic has shown how fragile global just in time supply chains are. Toilet rolls being the tip of a very large ice berg.
Of course not helped by the fact that some 100 million migrant workers didn't return to their workplaces once the Chinese New Year holidays ended. Chinese factories were only working at around 30% capacity during February.
Then there's shipping time to be factored in......

Population density has nothing to do with the price of fish, or Stockholm would be in lockdown while Exmoor would be open for business.
And at the risk of sounding like a Fox News pundit, if Sweden was such a wonderful place to live it wouldn't be as sparsely populated. To live in most of Sweden you either have to have been born there and have it engrained in your bones, or be completely mad.

Perhaps as a nation the Swede's are just more obedient and are born with more common sense.
