O/S Daily Monday 27 April 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, and those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy start to the day - forecast looks ok for today but rain from tomorrow.
DH watching tv, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge, DS1 still in his pit, DS2 settled and happy.
Lunch yesterday was lovely roast chicken, roasties, mash, swede, carrots,cauli/broc cheese, peas, stuffing, yorkshires and gravy. Tonight will be sausages or fish.
Back to work for me today - can't wait, pleased to get back into some sort of routine.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, thanks for starting NMLC - hope you have a good day at work. Its sunny here, I don't think the forecast is very good though. Still, we've had some lovely weather. It rained a bit last night. We went out for a walk yesterday, and that was the highlight of our day. Today we are going to start painting our sitting room I think, it's nearly 3 years since it was done, so could do with a freshen up.Hope everyone has as good a day as they can, take care folks14

Morning folks and thanks NMLC for starting us off. Overcast here, with a chance of a bit of sun. No rain forecast until Wednesday but I think we have seen the last of our early summer.
Day 43 of solitary confinement for me and, surprisingly, I am still sane. Or am I?! That might be open for debate!! But in all honesty I am fed up of it now but normal life seems a long way off yet sadly.
Nonna's Takeaway is open for business today!! With just one item on the menu!! I think I have started something here. DD is collecting it from the doorstep after she has finished her shift and done a bit of shopping. I'll get the Bolognese on cooking slowly shortly.
I have just ordered my repeat meds and changed my pharmacy from Boots to the little one in the village. I may regret this as he seems to have his own opening hours which no-one else knows about! But I don't like putting the kids at risk asking them to queue in Boots for it. My DF said her DGD had to queue ages for hers, and that was after waiting outside first.
I have the excitement of an Iceland delivery between 8 & 10. This will be my third one and, so far, not much has been oos. All the fruit and veg has been lovely and fresh and dairy and bakery well dated. But the bonus is getting a slot easily at a couple of days notice.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. RR your family would be cross at your thinking. Whenever I've said to my family I don't want to be a nuisance they say they are paying me back for all I have done for them and I am not a nuisance. Take care all and stay safe xx

Good morning folks. This morning I'm talking my car for it's first MOT. Despite there being six month extension I can't see any point in waiting as the garage I use is still open. It's a small independent one that I've always used when I had my series of Vauxhalls. CAMELOT- if you drive past Lindsay's give me a toot. 😀
Yesterday I collected my parcels and then sat with a friend in his garden for a wee while - socially distant but emotionally close. It was so good for my spirit. Then I took my car for a drive to Loch Lomond and back. The battery needed charged as the engine went into 'economy mode'. Didn't want it to fail MOT because of the battery. My friend lifted the extremely heavy curtains out of the boot and onto the back seat for me.REDRUBY - you've been through a tough time and life is doubly difficult just now and you've lost your sense of control. Let it all go, give others the pleasure of looking after you for a while. ❤️Hugs all round. Another day nearer to freedom - Happy Monday to all.14 -

Good morning and thank you for starting us off nmlc.
I had a strange day yesterday, felt very tired for no real reason. I cut the grass and cleaned the loos.
I really wanted pizza but have run out of strong flour. Lots of SR though so I googled and found a suggestion of SR flour plus greek yogurt. Was a bit sceptical but I didn't think it would kill us. There was no actual recipe, I just mixed it until it felt right. DS was scandalised, he is very precise in his bread ingredients measurements and wanted to know exactly how much flour I was using so he could calculate the correct amount of yogurt. I said 'some' and that caused more horror. I don't think he's ever realised that most of my cooking uses the some method, not cake, that needs to be a bit more precise. Anyhow it turned out really nicely, and served with a grated carrot salad with homegrown parsley was very pleasant. So I'll probably do that again as no need to let it rise.
Today no plans other thancleaning the kitchen floor which is a disgrace.
Hope everyone has a good day
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -
Morning All
Beautiful sunny morning, I've been for a long walk to the post office to post a parcel to DGC, called at Aldi on the way home and they had flour! I have a Tesco delivery tomorrow but wasn't impressed with their prices of fruit and veg so bought them from Aldi. As I bought 2 bags of flour (one for DD) my walk home was quite tiring! TA, I've tried to book an Iceland slot but nothing available here.
Good luck to your car Gers, sadly I'm not going that way today.
Sorry to hear your DD had her bag taken dp1, must have shaken her up.
RR - do as you're told and don't do anything!!
Dressing gowns are out on the line, don't think I have enough of anything else for a load. The veggies are coming on, I'm going to the allotment later to plant the beans as they are too big for their little pots now, just hope it's not too cold at night.
Have a good day, take care. XX12 -
Morning all.
AOD that is my method of cooking too. I am always being asked how much of something to put in, and "till it looks right" doesn't seem to help.
bella it'strue what they say, you married him for better or for worse, but not for lunch. Enjoy your freedom today.
ScarletRibbons, do you mean that you paint your house every 3 years???
(pulls coat collar up and slinks back into the shadows.)
TA, you might find that a small chemist is better for supplying you medication. I always used Boots, but when I moved I changed to an independent chemist. Mostly because a member of our church works there and when church was open, before each service she would be flitting around the congregation distributing little white bags of medications. These days she deposits it on the doorstep, rings the bell and scarpers. Makes life that bit easier.
Nelski, I'll be joining you in the housework jollification today. I'm torn between trying to make sense of my bedroom and tackling the R.O.D. which is piled floor to ceiling with everything that doesn't have a home, and there is a LOT OF IT.
I think the bedroom wins by a short head.
Apart from that anything goes. The ironing pile is in the embryo stage and can be safely ignored for a week or two.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Always trust your gut feeling. Your brain can be fooled and your heart is an idiot, but your gut doesn't know how to lie.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.13 -
Morning all
Its a bit overcast here today but the sun is meant to be out later, its meant to rain tomorrow and the rest of the week which will make people down, at least when its sunny you can get out for a walk.
Today I need to take the dressings offI am actually looking forward to this as I think it might be more comfortable without them on, I feel they are 'pulling' a bit I am just waiting for a call from the breast care nurses re if I should be removing the butterfly stitches or leave them, I suspect leave them but I will wait to see what they say.
I think I fancy a Jacket Potato for dinner with cheese and beans and salad so nice and easy, DD made up a fruit salad yesterday so I shall have that for breakfast with yogurt.
Have good days all xx14 -
Morning all! Sunny but the forecast is showers..FInally managed to get the very well built stepladder apart with the help of an angle grinder [ there were two metal brackets supporting two of the steps] and a hammer and the mole grips. The nails had all rusted in place so they took a bit of bashing to get out. I'm going to make some bee boxes with the steps because I have several small bamboo canes that aren't any good for anything, and these can be painted black and screwed to the fence at the back right.Managed to get a half inch splinter in one of my fingers but as my mother always used to tell my father, for each job to be done there is an element of risk. Meaning that until he'd injured himself doing whatever job [cut finger, bashed head etc] then the danger of a more serious accident had passed. That's superstition for you folks. He never did seriously injure himself though, but every job did seem to result in a small injury so....Ohs mother popped round with cake, lots of cake and very nice too, so we invited her to see the back garden. It was all socially distanced, she went round the side and we went through the house...I think it was very difficult for her to not hug and kiss OH because she loves her children and isn't afraid to show it. Breakfast this morning is going to be bread pudding because why not.And OH doesnt like it so I have to eat it before it goes off, yes?I think if it doesn't rain today I'll get the hairdryer hot air gun thing and take the paint off the door I'll be using for the table top. It has a small missing piece at one end but it's not serious and I don't think I can fix that yet because I don't have any suitable wood unless I spend a long time with a jigsaw, and that's not happening today...Nelski, you are still doing your evil excercises aren't you? Ruby, good luck with the dressing removal. And there are times when you are supposed to let other people help you and this is one of them for you. Monna, good luck with the ROD...AOD, snap. When I fancy cooking something I look on the net for recipes for it, then mix and match elements as I see fit. OH is the same, he likes to know exactly but I can't explain how not to burn onions, or how high medium heat is, or how fast something should simmer..I use each recipe as a starting point to add what I think will be right to. TA, how far does Nonnas takeway travel to? Asking for a friend....
Hope your car is in and out of hospital quickly Gers. Scarlet, 3 years? ::ulp:: We haven't painted anything in here except the downstairs loo and once it is done, the whole thing I mean, I'm not intending doing anything to it for at least ten years. orry, I'm a decorating !!!!!!....:) Hey all reading along, hope you're all wonderful on this new day new week....Magic Monday!
