Old Style Daily Sunday 26 April 2020

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about
everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great,
inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old
Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already.
Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check
the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style
natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.

Good morning everyone
Thank you taff for starting us off this morning. It is a bit cooler today here but still no rain so I am not complaining. I had a miserable start to the day yesterday but Steve cheered me up so much by playing a load of 70's tunes on YouTube, talk about a trip down memory lane. I then watched Life on Mars on Netflix which is excellent and also 70's based for those who don't know. After that blast from the past I watched Thor, the Avengers and the Star Trek film that was on ITV last night. So much tv but it really helped yesterday. I feel better today so will be knitting and possibly card making too as it is my sister's birthday in a couple of weeks time.
Steve cooked the best liver and onions yet last night for dinner and I made a huge bowl of fresh fruit salad which we ate with greek yoghurt. There is still some left so I am claiming that for myself today. We are going to have fish and chips from our local chippy for dinner tonight as Steve definitely deserves a night off from cooking.
Hope you all have a lovely day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning all! Again a blue sky, but it's still a bit chilly which will wear off later on I expect.I started yesterday morning by mowing the lawn, then that set the tone. I tidied and planted out even the scruffy looking pots so now I have only three big things that will stay where they're planted and I don't know where that is yet, put the potaoes in, they can just about see where they're going, Moved the mint in one pot to another and put the geraniums that were in that pot [ managed to keep them alive over winter, first time ever, two tiny little plants!] in a different pot, put the aliums and tulip bubls in the ground, they look terrible at the momentm all spindly and dying off but they'll be back next year...I'll sow chives after where the aliums are and try to take apart the step ladder. It's proving resistant...They really did make everything better and to last...My lump hammer will win the day though..Or drop on my foot or something.I put down a few tiles on the flor [ marble ones picked up from freecycle to try and see if they'd fit . They didn't but it really did bring home to me how different surfaces in a garden make it look more modern ad gardeny if you know what I mean. Mine is just grass and concrete at the moment....TA, you wouldn't want to live with me, I don't make anything with pasta that often because OH tells me he's not fond of it, even though when I make it, he eats it all and asks for more. Enjoy the sun if you can, read, relax and don't dwell...Monna, my brick is edible as toast as long as you think of it as german rye bread and not wholemeal...But never fear! My order of fluffy pancakes appeared yesterday! whoop...{ i ordered some new lids for my kilner type jars but I had to make my order up to twenty for shipping, so I found a packet of american pancake mix...I already have the sauce type stuff I asked a friend to get me some ages ago and it's still brand new in the cupboard] so breakfast is sorted and the bread can relax...or get harder...is it possible? hope you enjoyed the trip to the shop
snoozer, thanks for that info about lungs...um...keep safe? Nelski, someone has already put up the clip from Terminator 2 where she's about the inject the doc with Clorox [ or similar...] Gave me a laugh. H'es the most bumbling incoherent fool. Watch this space for more Darwin awards... nanny, hope you enjoyed the sun and the books...you can never have enough books...AOD, hope you enjoyed your nothing day and you back is better. Gers, I bought a huge packet of them for OH who said he wanted them. They're still unopened. Looks like you enjoyed yours more
Hey all reading along, this is a very Slothful Sunday....in honour of the AST club....

Morning all
Nice and sunny this morning but I don't think we're to see the temperatures of late but it has been fabulous. Bedding washed yesterday and put back on the bed, it was lovely to snuggle up last night and I've had a great nights sleep.
I looked at my bikes yesterday and if the tyres are ok I'll go for a ride in a bit, makes a change from walking, but terrified of hills!
Got some much needed housework done yesterday, I think the combination of being outside all week and having the windows open had made it particularly dusty, the laundry floor was filthy again!
Hope you're feeling better TA, it's such a difficult time for us all although it could have been made worse if we'd had rain all this time.
Goodness Gers, haven't had crunchy nut cornflakes for years.
Hope you all have a peaceful Sunday, take care. XX13 -
Morning folks and thanks for the start TAFF. Another glorious start but I fear this could be the last one if the forecast is right. Sounds like mucho rain ahead for most of us. Oh well, the best I can say about that is the gardens need it! I have just pegged the washing out and it felt warm in the sun but cool out of it.
GERS I hope your DM enjoys reading about Felix! It's a lovely little story - heartwarming, happy and sad all rolled into one. I read a good half of it yesterday sitting out in the garden. Hopefully I'll finish it today doing the same.
Downstairs looks as though it could do with a vac but, once that's done, it will be a slothful day for me.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Thinking of our poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Take care all and stay safe xx

Morning folks.Sun is streaming in through the windows. May be the last of the unusually hot spring days.My crunchy nut cornflakes were lovely. One bowl certainly slaked the urge, now I've got a huge box left. 🤣 I'm sure they'll keep.DM felt well enough to have a shower yesterday 🎉 so I took the opportunity to change her bed linen and nightie. All washed now and put away.Yesterday afternoon my lovely friends in Newcastle FaceTimed me, we had such a lovely chat as they sat in their back garden. I haven't seen them since last year so catching up was great. One of their sons turned 18 last week without any of the usual ceremonies though I'm sure there will be plenty of making up going on later.Today I have to collect three Amazon parcels from a local shop. Then I'm going to wave and shout at a friend who lives close to the shop. May even sit in his garden (at the requisite distance) and have a chat. I really miss my garden. ☹️After today I should have more than enough books to keep me going for a while, I really should stop buying them.DUMPLING - good to see you being positive. Sometimes it's difficult to tread water!CAMELOT - your house cannot be filthy! Dust? It'll be back tomorrow. 😃
Right... making a move now.Virtual hugs all round and I hope that everyone has a restful and happy Sunday. TAFF - restful for you too.13 -
Good morning and thank you for starting us off taff.
Sunshine again, I've been out and pulled out a couple of weeds and watered stuff. Cleaned the bathroom yesterday and need to do downstairs floors today as they are not meeting even my standards which are possibly lowish.
Back is still sore, I think from digging but it will get better. Yet another nosebleed and I think that's from hayfever.
At one point yesterday I was in the garden and it was so quiet that I heard a robin take off from a branch, amazing to hear its wings beating before I saw it.
I saw a facebook thing which pointed out that injecting noxious substances is usually referred to as embalming.
Hope everyone has a good day.
ETA Dumpling when we come out of th i s lockdown the first thing I would like to do is have fish and chips.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -
Morning everyone
taff - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Bright sunny start to the day, air is nippy tough.
DH watching tv, I'm enjoying my cuppa and my brekkie whilst on here, will get showered shortly, DS1 still in his pit, DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was hot quiche, scotch egg, pizza, skinny chips, side salad etc. Lunch today will be roast chicken with the trimmings.
DH spent some time in the garden yesterday - he sowed some more seeds - not sure what will grow - so we'll wait and see!
Back to work for me tomorrow - can't wait.
Spent some time planning some menu's and recipes to try some different dishes.
Keep safe and well x

Gers, funnily enough I got a box of crunchy nut cornflakes on our last food order, I haven't had them for ages either.
Woke with a miserable headache which is still making itself felt. On top of that my (insignificant) heart problem has decided to play up. It's been thoroughly investigated, there's nothing they can do about it, the cardiologist just shrugged and said "it will" when I said "but it makes me feel ill". Sorry for the moan, I'm really not that bad, just feeling a bit sorry for myself.
I went to Screwfix yesterday to pick up an order for Steve. It was very well organised, just a long queue to wait in then they took the order number and when it was ready we were told to go in to the shop wher the items were sitting on a table, so no human contact whatsoever.
We also had the family zoom at which my children remembered to appear this week so that was good. I am now taking bets as to whether the older lady rellie tells the same story she has told each of the three weeks so far! She's a lovely person but is obviously getting a bit forgetful now. Never mind, it's nice to keep in touch.13 -
Morning all
Bright and sunny here again its very lovely but rain due on Tuesday for a few days. Will get OH and DD to gather the washing in a while.
Yesterday I bent down to pick something up and felt something 'twang' in my armpit under the dressingI was very uncomfortable for a while I am taking the dressing off tomorrow so will see if I have done any damage, I hope not !! OH and DD have given me a telling off so I am to do nothing at all without asking, I am struggling with this as I hate to be a nuisance.
DD made some lovely cakes yesterday a brownie and two lemon drizzle cakes they are both so tasty, she will drop some off to my mum and sister today as there is far too much for us.
Not sure about dinner tonight I am still on smaller meals but I may have more houmous (will auto correct change this again ??) as I seem to be addicted to it atm.
Have good days all xx15 -
Morning campers, the sun is shining again, but I will make the most of it as we may have cloud tomorrow. Our Welsh TV weather forecaster Derek hasn't got it right for even one day this week, so we shall see. I didn't have a very good night, lots of tossing and turning and/or awake every hour. I seem to have one good one night to two bad ones on a rota latelyI sat and read in the garden for most of yesterday after giving the door 2 coats of paint and also planting the potatoes, looks like we are not going to get much rain so I will have to water them today. In the evening we watched the new MIB film which I found amusing and not as serious as the ones with Will Smith. ( and the bonus was Chris Hemsworth - Thor, took the lead part
)
It seems we now have a resident bouncer in the garden, a ginger cat who we have named Garfield. He sits on the wall either with everything (ahem) out on show or Sphinx like, lying-in-wait for other cats. He's a bit of a bruiserI have put a load in the WM and I've also stripped the bed. I will wash the bedding next then hang it out. Later I will remake the bed and cook tea. We're having minted lamb chops, roasties with veg and gravy for me. I must say I'm enjoying not having to cook a big joint on Sundays or even having it at lunchtime. I am hoping to have time for book reading and sunbathing again todayTake care all, hugs and stay safe.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently14
