Partial refund on online purchase for Amazon

Options
Hello,
Please help I purchased a Wi-Fi  mesh extender on Amazon for 100 pounds, it didn't work, so I returned it in  the original box the next day. I was  only given a 75 pound refund,  because I had opened the box, is this legal.
Many thanks in advance for any advice.

Yes if its damaged or used ,
    Normally Amazon refund 100% .
You should raise a complaint as to why deducted £25.

Did you tell them you were returning it because it was faulty, rather than because of a change of mind? Was it actually Amazon you bought from or a third party seller?

Sounds like you bought it through Amazon rather than from Amazon themselves - 3rd party sellers often try this.
  • Hi, it was a third party seller, I told them it didn't work.
    Kind regards

In which case raise an A-Z claim (?) through Amazon citing the fact that the goods failed to conform to contract yet the seller has only refunded on the basis of a change of mind return. (Assuming that you did actually make it clear to the seller that the reason for the return was because the goods didn't work).
  • Many thanks Do am, unfortunately Amazon do not seem to have a tab for that. When I click on the A to Z Amazon guarantee tab, it either directs me to contact the seller, or tells me to ask for a refund, then it tells me I have been refunded. I'm guessing the seller knows this, hence it is extremely difficult to get past this wall in Amazon.
    Many thanks Paul

You need to speak to a human at Amazon. Contact their Customer Service (they even pay for the call).

Many thanks  Moneyineptitude, Amazon do not make it easy to contact them.

I needed a partial refund recently. I initially had to use the automated / virtual "chat" and when that couldn't cope it put me on to a real person after a short delay. We exchanged a few lines of "chat", agreed a partial refund which was credited back to my credit card a few days later. Not ideal but it worked.

    I've never had a problem.
Indeed, Amazon  call you so it costs nothing and there is no queuing.
