    It's Saturday today.

Any way - there is an online tool to assess whether you need to pay.  It's working for me now.  I don't think it is a form to download.

I assume the OP is asking on this board as they are a landlord.  There have been previous threads here discussing whether a LL should be registered or not, but I don't remember there being a clear consensus.
Any LL will have data relating to their tenants, referees or guarantors maybe.  Data is data whether they are paper records or on a computer.

That may be true but the ICO does not require you to register if you keep only paper records.

I think it's a bit more complicated than that.  This document says that computerised systems are almost inevitably 'data' as they are readily searchable it discusses paper records that constitute 'data' as far as they are concerned

Paper data still needs to be handled in accordance with the DPA but the OP was asking about payment for registration.  That is simply not required for paper only data.

Hi again . Ive had a chance to read this again , I still think I need to pay .

Do you process the information electronically?

Answer ‘Yes’ if you process the information using computers or any system that can process the information automatically, including CCTV systems, digital cameras, smartphones, credit card machines, call logging and recording systems, clocking machines and audio-visual capture and storage systems.

Doesn't this mean  that  typing  up your rental contract with names , using a laptop ,  is processing your tenants information automatically ? ( The legal definition of processing on the ICO page means  'recording' )  .  No-one would  even think about handwriting  20 odd pages of contract , surely ?

I expect it also kicks in as soon as you start corresponding by email about a tenancy.

You could print the agreements then add the names manually.  But is it worth it to save £40?
