Can you get refunds on travel insurance?

Hi,
first time using the forum and I apologise if this is covered elsewhere. I had a holiday booked starting 10th May. The holiday is cancelled of course and it appears I have to resign myself to credit vouchers for both the holiday and the Purple Parking elements. However I had also booked travel insurance with MPI Brokers and contacted them to ask if it was possible to cancel this or at least be able to change the dates. They said this is not possible. So the holiday insurance I have purchased (at very beginning of Feb, before any restrictions were in place) is not going to be used but I can’t get anything back for it.
Has anyone else had any experiences with this? Is there any way of at least getting a credit?

No chance .
Single trip insurance so you've had the benefits of if since purchase.

If possible, it would probably be like getting the tax back on a cancelled low cost airline flight. The admin charge is equal to or greater than the refund.1

Is it that you don't want to bother trying to get a cash refund? ( Understand not everyone want to chase up a cash refund)
With the insurance, it started covering you for the trip on the day you bought it, so no refund is due.
I have heard some companies are offering to change dates (they don't have too) but sadly seems your company isn't one of those.

With Purple Parking I hit the cancel button and was automatically sent an email giving me a credit. I have since tried to contact them but not had any luck and no response to emails. The travel company Neilson, have offered an ATOL backed credit note and have said refunds can be claimed after Sept 30th - so for now it’s a credit.0

Purple Parking & holidays extras are run by the same people there is a thread about their actions, as what they are doing legally isn't correct.
Neilson shouldn't be telling people this, you have a legal right for a cash refund in 14 days, I know this won't happen , but to tell you to wait 5 month is also wrong legally
If you paid via a Credit Card on either holiday or parking and they are over £100 then your options of what you can do are a lot better.

I took out travel insurance for one trip to the Dominican Republic departing 29th April 2020. This insurance was very expensive due to pre existing medical conditions. The trip has been cancelled and TUI will provide a refund for the holiday. Can I also get a refund for my travel insurance as it is not required as the holiday is not going ahead? Thanks0

you can ask them. It depends. When did you take the policy out? You would have had some use of the policy from the time it was taken out until the holiday was cancelled. Some insurers will give a pro rata refund of the premium, others not. Depends on the T&C's of your policy1

I was pleasantly surprised when AIG refunded my premium in full for a trip to Thailand.
It was arranged from the link on the Emirates Airlines website when I booked my flights.
Emirates cancelled the flights, I called AIG and in that call I advised them I would not be making any claim from AIG as Emirates would be holding my ticket for 24 months and even though they had "insured" me since the booking date two months previously, they agreed a full refund which was processed in 48 hours.

I took out an (expensive) single trip insurance with Aviva (loads of pre-existing medical conditions) for a trip that was due late September.
Once I cancelled my holiday, one phone call to them, and as I hadn't claimed anything, they happily refunded a (large) percentage of the insurance, based on when I took it out, how many days cover I had used, and how many days from the phone call to my holiday that I wouldn't be using. The way things are going, soon we are all going to be victims of something or other.
Who will we blame then?2
